Super cute silk camisole top from Chloe from during the days that Phoebe Philo served as Creative Director. Philo began working for Chloé in 1997 as Stella McCartney's design assistant and succeeded Stella as creative director in 2001 when McCartney left to launch her own label. Philo stayed at the helm of Chloe until 2006. The top is typical of her work, simple, chic and practical fro day or evening. I love the loose and flowing feel to the piece and the gathered detailing at the neckline. It sits suspended from the shoulder by two tiny straps of silk and flows loose and easy from there. This hat is such a statement piece and so bold. It is made of a glossy, iridescent black feathers that are all set to sweep back front he front and give it that wonderful fullness. It is almost like a hood and the effect is marvelous. It is definitely a unique and bold piece. It is entirely made by hand. It has its Milliner label - Renata Originals - in it but I have not been able to find out more about who that was or a definitive date. Its fabulous regardless and I love it.

21.5" inner circumference there seems to be a spot on the base of the hat at the back between where the two sides sweep in towards each other that has no feathers but I cant tell if this is deliberate or they have been lost. It looks deliberate as I see no evidence of feathers being there before but I wanted to mention it for accuracy.

What a great little Yves Saint Laurent jacket that is made of a luxurious deep blue velvet. It is cut to be more fitted on the body and the detailing lies in the beautiful curves seams that give it its shape. It also has a series of wonderful faceted, glossy black domes buttons that run down the front and sit on each sleeve and I love this contrast tot he matte feel of the velvet. It is cut to curve in and around the torso and then to sit just at the waist with a slight flare at the hips. It has a beautiful soft pleat detailing on the shoulders and these are set with a slight high cap. It is quite fabulous and a great way to mix in vintage with your current wardrobe. Excellent condition.

Cashmere has been and always will be one of the most luxurious of fabric choices and perfect black jacket by Chanel is made form 100% cashmere. It is perhaps some of the best grade cashmere in the world and you will be thrilled to wear this soft and rich feeling jacket. I would hazard to say that being vintage makes it even better then the newer pieces as the quality of the cashmere would have been even greater. With a classic double breasted cut that is set low on the front, this is a jacket that will go with pretty much anything. It is cut in that classic elongated Chanel box cut to just past hip in length. There are two top set pocket on the front of the jacket that are set low near the hem. It is adorned with an incredible 14 gold metal Chanel buttons that give it that extra little bit of logo glamour. Excellent condition.

Fully lined in a hand set, high quality, fine black silk and closes with the buttons at the front. The pockets are functional and silk lined. Hand finished. I see the teeniest of patina on some of the buttons from normal wear but nothing that deters in anyway or compromises any of them. Tagged a vintage Chanel 38 but seems to have a generous cut.

This black pleated silk crepe skirt by Chanel skirt is fabulous and a staple of the Chanel look. The fabric is a fine silk crepe in a deep true black that will go with everything. It is so hard to convey the quality and fineness of a black piece especially when the work is as fine as from Chanel. The person that buys this will be extremely pleased to see the level of work and quality of this piece in person. The skirt is completely knife pleated in perfectly spaced lines, which gives it a long and lean cut when you are standing still but allows for a tremendous amount of volume and movement. Around the hips are two stitched rows that keep the pleats closed and give shape around the hip. The final effect is gorgeous and it moves wonderfully once on.  Excellent condition.

Stripes and prints were mixed with joyful abandon on the Spring 2011 Prada runway and were then translated for retail with very little difference in some case. This skirt is a great example of that as it stays very true to the version that walked the runway. This is a mixing of prints that has become iconic and instantly associated with Prada. It is made of a almost canvas feeling cotton mix so it retains structure. The print covers the skirt from top to bottom and all the way around the sides and back. I love the baroque feel it has mixed with a very modern silhouette. It's a beauty. Excellent condition

What a great little Yves Saint Laurent jacket. It is the perfect pop of color and it even has a matching belt with it that makes it so versatile. It is made of a rich silk moire fabric in a beautiful shade of blue. The inside is also finished in silk but here he has contrasted that lovely blue with a shocking splash of lime green. It is cut boxy and squared off and meant to sit just at the waist. The shoulders are strong but not overbearing and there are no closures at the front. It is finished with absolutely huge poured glass buttons at each sleeve that are just spectacular. It even has an extra button still. It is fabulous and a great way to mix in vintage with your current wardrobe. Excellent condition.

This sweater is fabulous and it is a wonderful example of the knitwear that was coming out of countries like Germany for the tourist market from the 50s to the 70s. It is completely hand made and I love the floral design that is worked through the knit down the front and curving around the back. It also trails down each sleeve with heavy braided borders surrounding the floral design. The knit through the body is nubby and both the flowers and braiding are raised so has an extra dimension to it. The sleeves narrow as they reach the wrist and I love the cap on each shoulder. Little wood buttons are the perfect arts and crafts finish. Knits like this are showing extremely strong on the Prada, Miu Miu and Gucci runways this season and finding an original that can easily stand up to any of the newer pieces is a find. I have this in both black and a taupe-chocolate and I think they are very chic. They have that cool, sleek minimal feel that Halston excelled at. The longer cut makes them incredibly versatile as well since you can wear it as a top or layer it and use it as a long, fitted cardigan. This is the black version and it is made of a stretch jersey in two weights. A heavier, more opaque version is used for the front and sides and then a lighter, semi-transparent version gives a sexy twist to the sleeves and back. These fit skinny and fitted and were a bit tiny on my mannequin, hence the low button front. They do button up one more from what you see. It is insanely comfortable once on and very sexy. Excellent condition with one note below

Marni pieces always are a bit quirky and walk that line between the peuce you throw on every day and high end fashion. You can easily spot a Marni pieces for its fashion forward lines and ease that it falls over the body. The duster coat is a Marni mainstay and this piece from the Spring 2005 collection is an outstanding example of this. Vogue said of this collection: "With her country-fresh pink cheeks, bird's-nest hair, and enviably serene smile, the Marni girl projects an easy, all's-well-with-the-world outlook. Step over her threshold, and you're in a place of slightly batty loveliness, where clothes have the touching resonance of sunny days, and getting dressed seems like a series of happy accidents. Designer Consuelo Castiglioni picked up her spring vibe from a couple of handcrafty, nostalgic artifacts: a Hessian place mat naïvely appliquéd with birds found in Portobello market and a bright-green flower-printed cotton sixties swimsuit from the L.A. vintage store Jet Rag. She teased out the essence of those oddly contrasting artifacts and wove it in to her existing passion for fifties kitchen-curtain prints, mattress stripes, and glitter-shot fabric. Result: a collection of pretty egg-shaped skirts, Empire sundresses, duster coats, and shrunken knits, often pulled together with sparkly belts or a humble piece of string. The Hessian table mat turned up as a burlap, birdie-embroidered skirt, and the swimsuit pattern in cheerful printed terry boleros and frocks. Castiglioni also made her first excursion into eveningwear, in bunchy pearl-gray taffeta dresses. As with everything else in this collection, they were charm personified."

The coat is the other "burlap" piece with embroidery from the collection (referenced above in the Vogie review) and was Look 36 in the runway show. It is made from a cotton mix with a rough texture that gives it that burlap feel. It is also meticulously cut and assembled despite its easy ad loose appearance. It is like a modern take on the 1920s duster coat with a neat neckline and easy fit that allows you to layer it loose and open or belt it for shape as it was shown on the runway on Daria. It expands out through the waist and curves slightly back in at the hem. Very chic and very Marni. Excellent condition

This is technically not a new item into the shop but I recently had it cleaned again by a specialist and it lightened some of the marks that are on the shoulder so am putting it out for a fresh look. I have also adjusted the price and feel that this is a solid buy at this new price. This would have been designed and created under the eye of Yves himself and this top has the added provenance of coming directly from the daughter of the Haute Couture client so has not been on the market prior to this. The blouse is exquisite and of course it is entirely hand made as the parameters of Haute Couture define. The silk is of the finest grade and you can feel the difference at first touch. All the YSL signature touches are there - the high, gathered shoulder and ruffled cuffs, the high neck with its wonderful tie and in this case an added dramatic ruffle at the neck. It is absolutely exquisite and a stunning example of Haute Couture while Yves was alive. It presents as excellent condition but does have two flaws - please read below.

Unlined and closes at the neck with buttons as seen. Each cuff also buttons to close. Entirely made by hand in the YSL atelier. Note two small flaws - there is a faint discoloration to the fabric at the back and an area on one shoulder where it looks like a darker color transferred to the fabric. Presents well when on and if worn under something these do not show at all. Priced accordingly.

It is always a privilege to have true Haute Couture pieces pass through the shop. Haute Couture is the very pinnacle of the fashion experience and I would hazard to say that vintage versions are even a little more special. You also get a lot for your money in many ways with vintage versions as the cost of current Haute Couture has skyrocketed. We have a couple of pieces from this collection coming and have included a partial video of the show.

It was hand made in Austria and the company began by making traditional costumes for Austrians attending the Salzburg music festival and eventually began to supply pieces for the tourist market. I love the floral design that is worked through the knit in rows between the little pom pom like nubs of wool and cross checks. Everything is slightly raised so has an extra dimension to it. Knits like this showed extremely string on the Prada, Miu Miu and Gucci runways and finding an original that can easily stand up to any of the newer pieces is a find. Excellent condition

Fantastic Celine denim skirt from the 1970s that is a great staple piece. Denim is a constant on the street style blogs and this is a great piece that has that casual feel of denim mixed with the sophistication and cut of a Celine piece. It has a great little A-line cut and it snaps closed up the front. I love the fantastic little pockets on each hip, each adorned with their own gold button. Each of those gold snaps is embossed with the old school Celine house logo of the horse and carriage for a bit of logo flare. Excellent condition

This beautiful green silk blouse is a classic look from Yves Saint Laurent and variations of it are still being produced today. It is quite fabulous and a little more elaborate the some of his other pieces from this era. It has a poet blouse feel to it with its ruffled front and sleeves that are caught up at each wrist with a ruffled finish. I love the classic tie finish at the neck that was his signature for many, many years. The front of the blouse is finished with a cascading ruffle on each side and it ties to close at the waist. There is a hidden hook and eye if you want to wear it with less of a plunge front or you can wear it as shown to show a sensual expanse of skin. The cut will also work as a layered piece over something underneath. The brilliant green color is amazing and the pretty curved leaf print worked into the silk divine. Excellent condition.

This Mr John hat is spectacular. It is made of a red felt that has been hand shaped into an exaggerated Fedora style hat. The brim is cut with a wide and graceful curve that jaunts up on one side and slopes down on the other for a "Dandy" feel. The red color is fabulous and will suit most skin tones. The hat is detailed with a leather band and a shaped and molded leather "feather" that weaves through the high crown and trails jauntily down one side in a beautiful curve. The hat is superb and I have never seen anything like it before. Excellent condition

A fabulous, deep blue soft felt Yves Saint Laurent hat that feels fresh and relevant. The brim is top stitched with an array of pretty pastel color stitched stripes - pink, blue, yellow and white. These also have been done on the bands that cross over the top of the hat and are anchored by little gold crosses. The colors are very subtle and are a nice little touch that becomes apparent as you get closer to the hat. It feels very on point and modern. Excellent condition

This is a wonderful little interior quilted jacket by Anne Klein - one of the foremost American sportswear designers. She passed away in 1974, unexpectedly and Donna Karan took over as head designer. This lovely little jacket has the label from the 70s and its a toss up whether it would be one of the last collections under Anne or a very early Karan one. Either way, it is really extraordinary and the unexpected use of a blanket fabric makes for a dramatic statement that still feels fresh. The cut is simple and easy with a boxed cut through the torso and long slim sleeves. Each sleeve ends in a dramatic and gorgeous fluff of fur. The fabric itself is a a light blanket wool weight and it has a quilted interior. Well made and a real gorgeous little piece. Excellent condition

Rudi Gernreich set so many firsts in fashion it is mind boggling. He was the first to use "cutouts, vinyl, and plastic in clothing. He designed the first thong bathing suit, unisex clothing, the first swimsuit without a built-in bra, the minimalist, soft, transparent No Bra, and the topless monikini. He was a four-time recipient of the Coty American Fashion Critics Award. He produced what is regarded as the first fashion video, Basic Black: William Claxton w/ Peggy Moffitt”, in 1966. He had a long, unconventional, and trend-setting career in fashion design."

This swimsuit and the pink one identical, are each extremely rare and very early examples of his work. They date to 1953 when he would have just begun working for the Westwood Knitting Mills in Los Angeles. This was seven full years prior to the establishment of his own company and even then it was another 4 years after that, that the "Rudi Gernreich" label was born. This makes them remarkably rare and an important and early glimpse into his progression as a designer. The suit was also photoed on Jimmy Mitchell by Tommy Mitchell that same year. This version is a stunning periwinkle bue knit that is cut with a nod to the 30s and 40s. It has a double row of buttons and is unlined with no support within the interior. It has its original gusset and looks to have never been worn as the white nylon gusset is clean and fresh. Excellent condition 

Unlined with a white nylon gusset that shows no signs of wear. It slips on to wear. There is evidence of a nip or two in the wool and some older, very light repairs tot he knit here and there but these are all minor. In order to preserve it in as true a condition as possible it was cold treated to museum standards rather then having it go through a dry cleaning process.

This is an amazing early 1960s silver metal disc bag in the manner of Paco Rabanne. It does have a tag that says it was hand made in Italy by Delill and I can only assume that this was a small independent bag maker. It is of extremely good quality, with a good weight to it and indeed could rival the work of Rabanne during this time period. It is made of silver toned metal discs that are linked together and the entire bag is suspended from big silver rings. Inside is a woven silver fabric and the bag has a fold over turn key clasp. It looks to have been used very little if at all and all of the discs are still bright and shiny. To get that neat, mod, sleek feel, it is very tightly constructed and almost flat which means that the opening is not very wide. Expect to slip in your cell phone, a lipstick and some money and that's it. It is a fabulous statement piece. Excellent condition

I am a little obsessed with this fedora by Christian Dior. It has a small, neat brim and sits at a jaunty angle once on. It is made of a felted wool and the band that circles the crown is an ultra-suede. The textures those two fabric have when combined are delicious and the colors make it the perfect chic neutral. I love love love the little "arrow" detail that give illusion of going through the hat and how each side of that detailing is anchored with a little gold piece. Trust me - you will wear this one over and over. Excellent condition

A fabulous and instantly recognizable Yves Saint Laurent hat that I absolutely love. The brim is wide and bold and I love the "fuzzy" felt and mohair choice of fabric that gives it a fur feel. It has a patchwork pattern covering it that gives it an amazing hippie feel. The hat is soft but with a shaped crown and not so soft that it is floppy. It feels very on point and modern. Love this high set and unusual Hubert de Givenchy pillbox hat that is a really amazing color combination of a copper and pale pink gold tone silk satin. The label has it earmarked as an "adaptation" which means that it was licensed and made in America for the American market based on the Paris designs. This was common in this time period to work around strict importation rules for fashion and fabrics during this time period. It is meant to sit high on the head and have a structured turban feel to it. Excellent condition

Structured body with a inner, stiffened horsehair net lining. Hand finished. The slightest of grubbiness to the fabric but I am being very picky.

Bold, statement making Lanvin pendant necklace done in a brilliant green and gold. It sits higher up then many of their pendant pieces from this era which allows it maximum impact. The resin is a brilliant emerald that graduates to a a clear edge. This is set in and topped by a gold half circle and the snake chain runs through it at the top. The green is fantastic in person and  pops against the gold. Excellent vintage condition.

The slightest of scuffing to the gold from normal wear and passing of time. Closes with a clasp hook.

The center amulet is 3" high by 2 1/4" at the widest point. The chain measures 19" end to end.

Wonderful Lanvin amber resin amulet choker necklace that sits at the base of the neck for maximum impact. The resin is set between two tapered gold sections that link to another section in each side and then to the chain. The color is a bold amber that pops against the gold. Excellent vintage condition.

The slightest of scuffing to the gold from normal wear and passing of time. Closes with a clasp hook. Note that the round Lanvin metal tag has fallen off - you can clearly see where it was. If found it will be sent at a later date to the new owner.

The center amulet is 2" high by 2 1/4" at the widest point. The necklace measures 17" end to end.

This is the same print as the skirt i have listed it with but unfortunately for the girl thinking to pair them up they are not a bang on match size-wise, though if you are tinier on the top you never know. A truly stunning little top that instantly makes you think of far off tropical luxury, combined with lazy days spent by the ocean, with umbrella topped drinks in hand. It is superbly simple in cut, allowing the beauty of that custom screened cotton to shine. The colors are pure happy ocean blues - a mix of turquoise highlighted with pops of color, all edged in fine black and signed throughout with that famous Pucci signature. It is made of a thicker twill weight cotton and wraps around the body and then snaps into place at the front. Its pretty tiny - on the mannequin it only snapped at the very out snaps and really on the right sized person would fully cross over and have more coverage and security. Excellent condition

A truly stunning skirt from the legendary Emilio Pucci that instantly makes you think of far off tropical luxury, combined with lazy days spent by the ocean, with umbrella topped drinks in hand. It is superbly simple in cut, allowing the beauty of that custom screened cotton to shine. The colors are pure happy ocean blues - a mix of turquoise highlighted with pops of color, all edged in fine black and signed throughout with that famous Pucci signature. This is one of his signature cuts with a longer pointed front and back. It is made of a thicker twill weight cotton which allows it to hold its spectacular shape when on. And the larger size is a bonus as its very hard to find Pucci in this size. Presents as excellent condition but please read notes below

Unlined and closes with side zipper and hidden hook & eye on the waistband. There are some light discolorations and spots scattered over the skirt (please supersize the photo to see). It is still completely wearable as is because of the heavy pattern you really only see them when it is off the body and lying flat. It has been priced substantially lower so is a real bargain!

Perhaps one of the most iconic of all the Yves Saint Laurent pieces, the laced safari corset top is one of the most coveted of pieces. This one is perhaps even more rare in the vivid blue color that you see. Normally you find these in the khaki or black and rarely in some of the few colorways he produced. The top is edged in a blue and red braiding with a chevron design that offers a wonderful contrast to the blue. Made of a canvas weight cotton that gives it extra shape, it laces into place at the front as shown. A rounded bust line and peplum effect hip add to the bombshell effect. Excellent condition.

Lined in the same fabric as the exterior and well done enough to the point where if not for the label you could reverse it. Tagged a 44 but these run small so please check actual measurements. Note that it is measured with the front edges lined up - you will get more room by creating a space between.

This is an amazing little hat is the twin of the black version recently listed (and already sold) from the estate of Dorothy McGuire of the McGuire sisters - a singing trio known for their sweet harmonies and identical outfits who recorded the No. 1 hits "Sincerely" and "Sugartime" in the 1950s. It was custom made for her in the late 1960s and was made in France. It has a definite 30s feel to it and had I not known the provenance I would have guessed it to be older based on the fine workmanship and proper techniques used in the construction of the cap. This one is an a lovely off-white color and is made of a fine wool felt that is soft and flexible. Onto this are hundreds of various sized glass rhinestone crystals, each properly prong set in the traditional manner and each placed and set by hand. The cap has curved edges reminiscent of a flapper cloche and this allows you endless styling variations. It is really a remarkable little thing and I will be sad to see this one go as it is a true little treasure. Excellent condition

This is just a fantastic statement piece and will add a dash of drama to any ensemble. Made of cut metal in a silver tone the disc fall from an adjustable neck with a scalloped plate that follows the curve of your neck. The hook and chain the runs around the neck allows you to adjust it to fall lower as it is photoed or you can have it sit high up on your neck in a more choker style. From that plate 6 discs fall in two sizes for a full 11" drop from the base of the neck-plate. It makes for an incredibly dramatic piece. Excellent condition.

Looks to have been worn little if at all. I see no scratching or marks. Remarkable

The chain around the neck is 19" end to end and is adjustable. The neck-plate at the front is approx 5" long and is a part of the 19" measurement. From the top portion of the front neck-plate to the bottom it is 13" in total.

These are so hard to find and this is a fine example. The Halston sequin cloche was a mainstay of the Studio 54 set. Bianca Jagger famously wore a red beret version but this one is the more fitted cap design. It is made of a stretch lurex knit upon which hundreds of glossy black sequins are fixed. It will stretch to fit most sizes and is a fabulous finish to any outfit. These are super hard to find so is a real little treasure. Excellent condition

This is a superb graphic beaded bag by Pierre Cardin and one of the best I have seen with its happy little color combination. These are especially collectible and this one is a wonderful example. The exterior of the bag is entirely covered in hand placed, tiny seed beads. Both sides have an identical, eye-catching curving design that reminds me of a rainbow with its bright colors and happy feel. The shape of the bag is also unusual and is a wide cone shape. This is set on a brass frame with a large ball clasp at the top center. It has a matching link chain that can be tucked in or worn over the shoulder. Excellent condition

Lined in a cream silky satin with one side slip pocket and the original mirror. I see no missing beads.

Dramatic vintage gloves  that are very well made and have high impact. I was told that they are actually Claude Montana and since they all came form the same source as the other high end gloves I have no doubt that that is what they are despite the fact that they are not labeled. They are made from fine and soft leather leather that has been hand dyed to a deep blueberry purple tone. Each has a dramatic 9" black leather fringe that hangs from the side and a swirling design on brass studs above that. They are lightly lined which allows them to perfectly mold to your hand and be extremely comfortable to wear. They have their original shop tag but no other markings. I would say they are approx a size 7.5 based on the fit compared to the other gloves in the shop.

A spectacular pair of gloves by Yves Saint Laurent that are made from the finest lightest kid leather that has been hand dyed to a brilliant true hot pink color (they are a true bright pink in person). They are lightly lined which allows them to perfectly mold to your hand and be extremely comfortable to wear and hand finished inside. They have both YSL tags and their size 7 tags inside. The color is beautiful and I adore the wide scalloped cuff that flares out above each wrist

Wonderful Chanel gloves that sit right to the elbow and that are made from the finest lightest kid leather that has been hand dyed to a beautiful purple color. They are lightly lined which allows them to perfectly mold to your hand and be extremely comfortable to wear. They have the Chanel logo stamp in one and the Made in France stamp in the other with the size 7 1/2 marked. The color is beautiful and I adore the quilting detailing that cover the gloves.

John Anthony launched his label in 1971 and during the seventies and into the eighties produced amazing pieces that were sleek and sexy. As the label progressed into the 80s it got more decadent and showy resulting in fabulous pieces like this one. This wonderful little cardigan is a true find. It is quite fantastic, very very well made and has beautiful detailing. The base is a deep burgundy silk that has a heavy application of beads and sequins, all hand applied and covering the entire surface. He then added glossy black mink cuffs and a front collar that curves around the neck and goes right down the front. I love the movie starlet glamorous fifties feel of it with its cropped cut and loose fit through the body. It has no closures and is lined in a fine silk so feels as luxurious on as it looks. It is such a decadent little piece and a great way to work a fabulous piece of the past into your wardrobe. Excellent condition

Escada is not normally a label I actively look for when I am hunting for pieces for the shop. But after seeing stirrup pants all over the runway for fall and then coming across these insanely fabulous ones - well I just could not resist saying yes and I have a feeling they are going to fly out the door. What an amazing pair of trousers that are just such a strong statement piece that you can't help but fall in love. They are such a gorgeous and vibrant color and the decadence of the heavy coverage of sequins just adds to their luxurious appeal. They glimmer and glint in the light and seem to be alive once on as the sequins glide over your legs. Pair these with any solid, or mix and match prints, for a million styling options. Flat fronted with a black satin waist and a matching sash that you can tie over the waist, or in your hair (or if you are tiny and brave even perhaps use around the bust). They are fitted through the butt and upper thighs that then narrow and end just above the ankle with that signature 80s stirrup wrapping around the foot. Despite the crazy coverage of sequins they are as comfortable to wear as a pair of track pants and they hang quite fabulously once on. Excellent condition

The Pleat Please label began production in 1993 and I am sure this is a piece from early on in this label's history. It is an incredible piece that falls somewhere between a poncho, a shawl and a dress in that it is basically a huge swatch of fabric with a V cut out at the neck. After slipping your neck through it drapes down and trails onto the floor on one side and is cut to just about the knee on the other. I could not find a reference photo for how it was styled on the runway but I would imagine that you could be quite creative and belt it or drape it in a million different ways. The process of how the fabric was made is quite interesting, it involves heat-treating the polyester jersey to permanently retain washboard rows of horizontal, vertical or diagonal knife-edge pleats. The fabrics are cut and sewn first, then sandwiched between layers of paper and fed into a heat press, where they are pleated. The fabric’s ‘memory’ holds the pleats after the garments are liberated from their paper cocoons. This is a great and early example of one of the true modern innovators. Excellent, appears unworn condition.

Unlined and slips on. Note that this has incredible amount of play and movement so the measurements provided are of the garment lying flat and with reasonable stretch. The sides of the garments are open - it is literally a huge swatch of fabric with an opening for the neck

Wonderful vintage Hermes gloves that are made from the finest, lightest black suede. Each is full opera length so you can wear them high up on the arm well past the elbow or scrunch them down. They are unlined which allows them to perfectly mold to your hand and be extremely comfortable to wear. They have the Hermes logo stamp along with the size 7 1/2 mark. I love the ruched effect down each side and the dramatic ruffle that runs along the edge of each glove.

These are fabulous and quite rare. McCardell was known for her ability to make sportswear chic and she as one of the early designers to not just offer up a dress but she produced the entire look - including sunglasses. I have included an ad from 1953 and also found examples of her work held at The Met. These are a great example with their bright metallic painted plastic frames. They are a classic cat eye with the original lenses. 

Marked Claire McCardell on the inner arm. The pattern appears to be hand painted or fused int the plastic. I see no major scratches or marks on the lenses and believe that they are the original as they feel to be glass. Note that the inner nose pads have disintegrated and fallen off completely. Part of me suspects they were added later anyway but in any case they are no longer there. They sit fine on the face as is.
