I Have a Question
This dress was designed by Belgian-born Jules-Francois Crahay, who headed the Lanvin ateliers from 1964-1984. He has been noted as one of fashion’s 'great colorists with his colorful patterns making his 1970s Lanvin designs hugely desirable and influential.' His time at the Lanvin label is one of my personal favourites for the house. I especially love the his work during the period through the late sixties and into the early 1970s. He was a genius at print and colour and he pushed the envelope in terms of using cutting edge fabrics available during this time period. This dress dates to the Spring 1972 collection and I am very pleased to have found a reference photo for a version of the dress in slightly different print. This dress has the extra modern provenance of its twin being worn by the character Samantha in the 2008 Sex and The City movie. I love it.
This Lanvin dress is gorgeous. The dress has a gorgeous bright colour and print combination. The crisp cotton fabric it is made of is holds colour exceptionally well so the colours are still crisp, bright and true. It has a waffle weave texture woven through it and that just contrasts and brings out the pattern on the dress even more. The dress a single shoulder that angles across the neckline at the front and the back. The fabric has been gathered into an open ring at the top of the shoulder. It is cut to be more loose and easy to skim over the bodice and then it cinches in more under the bust to the waist. You can see how that sits in the editorial shot that we have included here. You could also add a belt if you wanted to add even more definition around the waist. From there the skirt falls to the floor and it widens substantially as it nears the hem. The skirt has yards of fabric in it. The pattern that runs over the entire dress is spectacular and I love how he played with the angles of the stripe so the eye is brought in at the waist. The final finishing touch on the dress is that big oversized silver zipper with its giant silver loop at the top that acts as it's zipper pull. A very avant-garde detail for this time period. It is an amazing dress and it is one that is instantly recognizable piece of his work. Excellent condition
The bodice is unlined and the skirt is lined in a black silk. Ribbon finished hem. It zips to close at the side with a hook and eye above the zipper.

Prettiest Spring 1991 Yves Saint Laurent Runway Printed One Shoulder Easy to Wear Dress
I Have a Question
The twin of this walked the runway for Spring 1991 and we found just a second of footage of it as the model walks back down the catwalk. We have included that little bit of film along with a couple of stills taken from the clip for you to see. They are not the best photos ever, but we were still very happy to have confirmation that this was a runway piece. Marie Claire shot a different piece from the show done in the same fabric and that is also here for you to see. The dress is gorgeous and its looks like it was never worn. Truly a time capsule piece.
The dress is made from a lightweight cotton voile that that has just enough weight so that it falls and drape perfectly over you. I love the bold use of all those brilliant colours in the print. There is an angled strap made out of the same fabric that curves over one shoulder. Inside the bust there is a built in, lightly boned bodice, with its own zipper that holds the dress in place over you. The dress drapes over the inner bodice and wraps around you almost like a sarong. Part of it wraps around the waist and snaps in the place for a touch of shape. It falls over the body in a loose and easy-to-wear way. The entire skirt wraps over itself and the wrapping of the fabric gives the hem an asymmetrical feel with one side hanging lower than the rest for a beautiful trailing feel. The wrap lets the slightest bit of air catch the fabric and lets it billow out around you when you walk and move. It is fantastic once on the body and really showcases his genius at both print and cut. Excellent condition
The inner bodice acts as the lining there and the rest is unlined. The built in, lightly boned bodice, closes with a zipper and flat hook and eye. The waist snaps and hooks in place. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. Tagged a vintage YSL 40.

I Have a Question
This is the second time that I have had this dress in the shop and I love it even more now. Three versions of this dress in this print were presented on the Fall 2000 runway that season. The twin of this one was worn by Trish Goff. Vogue's review of the collection states in part; 'Fall 2000 was, overall, the season of the lady. One who had polish—and, likely, two homes and one eye on the fluctuating stock market. “With the Dow Jones and Nasdaq soaring and plunging like a late-sixties hemline,” wrote Sally Singer in Vogue, “it was perhaps inevitable that many designers would choose for fall 2000 to forgo fantasy and get back to basics—luxe basics, that is.” I think this was one of the best dresses in that collection and I am very pleased to have it again.
The dress is a stunning example of the work that Lagerfeld was doing during this time period. It has an easy sexy feel to it. It feels like the kind of dress that you just throw on and walk out the door in and feel fabulous. The silk chiffon is feather light and has an amazing print in pinks and purple that covers the entire surface. The fabric is draped and gathered over the body to create the very feminine silhouette that you see. There is an inner purple lining that goes to just below the hip so that the silk has something to attach to, and the dress is opaque enough to wear. Over that the silk is gathered in soft sweeps around the body. There is a curved panel of fabric attached along one hip that drapes down and around the hips and then another panel attached at the top that drapes over one shoulder and that you can wear straight down and over the top of your arm. Because all of the panels are unlined you get this interesting play on the overlapping of the pattern. The skirt that falls beneath where the lining ends has a touch if transparency that gives a glimpse of the shape of the leg underneath. It is cut on an angle to further play on the asymmetrical feel of the dress and slit up one side of the skirt. This means that when you walk and move the slightest bit of air catches that layer of chiffon and it moves beautifully around you. The famous double C logo is worked through the print for the perfect finishing touch. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. Excellent condition.
Fully lined in a purple silk chiffon through the body of the dress and closes with a hidden set side zipper. Light boning on either side of the bust. Tagged a vintage Chanel 40. Because it is bias cut the length will come up once it is on.

Spectacular Cruise 2008 Christian Dior by John Galliano Embellished One Shoulder Black Silk Chiffon Dress
I Have a Question
This was a dress produced for the shops but you can see that it was based on a combination of Looks 10 and Look 52. Done in a more versatile black, it has the one shoulder cut of Look 10 combined with the bead work and embellishments that you see on look 52. Vogue said that the collection was done "in an electric-bright palette.. and channelled Barbara Hutton's sixties—a glittery, lame, paisley, and leopard-print world of muumuus, bikinis, capri pants, trapeze dresses, cat-eye sunglasses, and scarf-wrapped hats. It bordered on camp... and Kitschy or not, there was no denying the workmanship that went into crafting the large collection." I love that the photo of the blue dress still shows you how fantastic this is on the body and I love that the added details make it feel that much more special.
The dress is made out of a black silk chiffon that has a slight bit of texture to it. It is all cut on the bias but with seaming at the waist so that it has more structure then some of his longer bias cut pieces. The dress falls from one shoulder and then drapes down and over the bodice to the waist before the skirt swings out from under there. It is very beautiful. It is cut to skim and drape over you so that is shows every curve but is not overly fitted. The dress is suspended from that one wide shoulder panel that curves over your shoulder and drapes across the bust to the other side. On both the front and back he has added a fabulous spray of intricate floral appliques that are detailed with black jet beads and sequins. These catch the light beautifully as you move. The waist nips in and the dress comes with its original belt, in its original pouch, that allows you to cinch the waist in as much as you like. I love the big jewel buckle on the belt that adds that much more glitz. The skirt flares out under that to the hem. There is a good amount of silk chiffon through the skirt which gives you so much movement when you walk. It's stunning. His signature row of tightly spaced buttons run up one side. It is an incredible example of his work and looks to have been worn very little if at all. Excellent condition with a small note below
Fully lined in a black silk and closes at the side with a series of silk covered buttons. I see one tiny hole near the hem. Please see the photo after the label shot. Tagged a FR42, GB14, IT46, US10.

Numbered Resort 1985 Christian Dior by Marc Bohan Silk Chiffon One Shoulder
I Have a Question
This is a very chic Christian Dior dress from the Marc Bohan years. The label is numbered and when you see that in a Dior Boutique label it most often meant that the piece was a special order or was a custom made order for a client in the atelier but fitted at the boutique store rather then in Paris. It is a wonderful example of the work being done during this time period and shows the restraint that the label could have when it delved into minimalism. It is a very easy and comfortable dress to wear. Don't let the simplicity of it fool you. This is a dream to wear and the simple lines are offset by the high quality of the silk and the ease and beauty it has once on.
The dress is made from a black silk that drapes beautifully over the body. The neckline falls from a single shoulder that draped up and over to the back. There is an inner dress and then a layer of silk chiffon is draped over that dress to blouse over you to the waist. I love the way it softly angles from the shoulder down to the other side on both the front and the back. The waist has an elastic so the dress is extremely easy to wear and comfortable. The bodice blouses over the waist line. You can wear it as is or you can to add a belt underneath and cinch in the waist to create a more hourglass shape. The inner bodice is made from two layers of the same silk chiffon and it is cut to skim over your bust to the waist. The skirt falls from the waist to the floor gently widening out as it clears the hem. The elastic creates a series of small soft gathers all the way around the waist and this the skirt open up beautifully as it does. The skirt is made of three layers of the silk chiffon, each stacked perfectly over each other. A slit runs out the same side as the shoulder for a little bare flash of leg. This is a dress that you just slip on and it is perfect every single time. You can see the hand work throughout and it is beautifully made. Excellent condition.
The layers of silk chiffon act as its lining. The dress weighs ounces. It closes with a side set zipper on the two innermost layers to the waist and then snaps on the top lay over that. Elastic through the waist. It looks to have been worn very little if at all.
Bust: to 17" flat across from side seam to side seam
Elastic waist: 13-16" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: to 18.5" flat across from side seam to side seam

john anthony
Exquisite Spring 1993 John Anthony Hand Beaded One Shoulder Dress on Pale Gold Silk Net
I Have a Question
John Anthony's business was all done on a made-to-order basis. That means that each piece is the only one that exists or in the very occasional circumstance that there are similar pieces only a very limited amount of pieces were made. And to make things even a little more special.... the pieces I have in the shop come directly from John's archive. He is one of the great American couturiers and he was known for his sharp tailoring and striking evening wear. He launched his atelier in 1971 and he quickly rose to fame winning a Coty award in 1972 and then again in 1976. This spectacular dress is from his Spring 1993 collection and is the original sample from his archives. It is truly a special piece and it might even make an amazing wedding dress for the bride looking for a non-traditional choice or as an alternative dress in a more extended wedding celebration. And of course it could also be worn to any event.
This dress is absolutely stunning. This is the kind of dress that you will only find with vintage or in modern day Haute Couture. The fabric is a fine pale gold coloured silk net that is cut on the bias. It is lined in a nude silk chiffon and then the entire dress has been hand beaded from top to bottom with thousands of tiny glass tube beads and seed beads in a mix of gold, clear and ivory beads onto the netting. The silk netting and chiffon lining are both feather light and the placement of the beads help it to hold the intended shape that John wanted it to have. The dress is suspended from a single shoulder that curves up and over the shoulder. It angles down in a soft line on the front and back. I love the beaded panel that falls from that shoulder and trails down the back. This adds a little extra detail and movement when the dress is on the body. The iridescent quality of the more clear beads mixed with those tiny metallic coloured ones catch the light and sparkle from every angle. The dress flows beautifully over the waist and hips. The bias cut lets it drape perfectly over you and shows off the body without being excessively tight. The skirt falls to the floor and gently widens out as it nears the hem. The back is cut longer then the front so you get a bit of a trained effect behind you as you walk. Around all of the edges including the hem is a dense border of the beadwork that gives the dress the perfect finishing touch. It also gives the skirt a touch of weight to hold the shape and volume as you walk and stand. It has this lovely feeling of being an heirloom piece and it is fantastically beautiful to see in person. It is a very special piece. Excellent condition with a minor note below
Fully lined in a nude silk chiffon and the outer netting is backed in a white netting. It closes with a hidden set side zipper slips over the head to wear. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. This is the original runway sample. Handwork throughout and cut on the bias.

loris azzaro
Dramatic 1987 Loris Azzaro Black Strapless Dress w Low Full Skirt & Shoulder Flare
I Have a Question
Loris Azzaro launched his label in 1967 and his trademark look soon developed. He became know for his extravagant use of colour, beading, sequins and avant garde ways of defining the body. Some of the most beautiful women in the world wore his clothing including Marisa Berenson, Raquel Welch, Jane Birkin, Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot and Tina Turner. It was a label that defined sexiness and had a certain French flare that women world-wide loved. By the eighties he was experimenting with volume and proportions and new cutting edge fabrics. This is a wonderful example of his work during this time period. We found a reference photo of an Azzaro dress with a very similar shoulder treatment and I think this one is even better.
This dress is nothing short of a bold and dramatic statement piece. The bodice is hand draped into soft rounded gathers over the bust. They continue all the way down under the bust to follow the curve of the body all the way to just below the hips. For this part of the dress he used a black stretch jersey that gives the dress it's fitted shape but also keeps it comfortable to wear. Inside the dress is one of his signature strapless underwire bras and this has been sewn into the dress for added support and shape. The top edge is shaped into a low sweetheart curve and the gathers are set to run horizontally down the body. Hand set vertical seams are tacked into place at points all the way around you to give the gathers a slight scooped feel and add length to offset the horizontal lines. It also keeps the gathers from adding bulk. Under that the skirt is set low and i is made out of a black textured silk that has a metallic finish. This is set over several layers of built in under skirting to help give and hold the volume you see in the skirt. On each outer side the panels of the skirt slightly lift up and away from the dress. To tie this into the top, the same fabric and swooping line is used to create that sweep of fabric on the one side of the bodice. I love how this flares out up and over the front portion of the shoulder. It is fabulous. Excellent condition.
Fully lined in a black silk with a built in bra though the bodice that hooks to close separately. It closes at the back with a painted metal and nylon zipper. The interior bodice is boned. Layers of tulle and silk underskirts under the low set skirt. The flame/fan detailing on the bodice has wire inside to hold it up. It would be easy to add additional wire or stiffening inside if you wanted it to really hold even taller then it does now. Hand finished throughout
Bust: to 16.5" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 13" flat across from side seam to side seam and the inner waist stay hooks slightly smaller then that
Hips: to 17" flat across from side seam to side seam
Length: 52" from top of bodice to hem
Modern Sizing Equivalent: XS-SML
