The twin of this dress appears in the book on Thea Porter's work that accompanied the exhibit on her work. The photo appears on page 73. The caption in the book notes that "Claudia Bruce wearing a peasant style dress in a Persian paisley print combined with Damascus fabric and a leather and feather headdress. Greeks Street, London, 1969.". It is so rare to find runway photos of her shows and to have all this extra information is fantastic. 1969 is also an interesting year to note because it is the year that she started to sell her designs at Giorgio Beverly Hills. It was said that when word got out that Thea had new things in the Girorgio boutique, women ran to be able to get a piece for themselves, they sold out that fast. This is the only one I have ever seen like this outside of that book photo. Given her extremely limited run on certain pieces it may in fact be the only other one that was made and exists. It is truly a very special piece.

The dress is a fantastic combination of fabrics and this was something that Thea excelled at. She had the ability to source these fantastic antique fabrics and then mix and match them to put them together in a way that you had never seen done before. The front panel combines a floral and paisley print with beautiful detailing between. It runs down the front in a long rectangle shape and then she curved it over the shoulders and ran another panel of it down the back. The rest of the dress is made out of a clay coloured silk organza that has a beautiful pattern hand embroidered over its surface. A little chain of white embroidery runs through that pattern for a little bit of a pop. At the end of each sleeve there is an insert of the cotton fabric. This is set in a wide band all around the cuffs with these little points running up into the sleeve. The shape of the dress is easy and comfortable to wear. It skims over the body and flares out slightly as it reaches the hem. Slits run up each side so you get a flash of leg when you walk. Each sleeve is fantastic. Each is a full and voluminous balloon type sleeve that puffs up extravagantly around each wrist. The collar on the dress is perhaps the best part. A tie loops through the front part only and for most of the shots I have tied it enough so that it scoops like it does in the runway shot. However, you can loosen the front up and that allows you to push the dress down the shoulders to expose a full expanse of bare skin across the top of the shoulders. It is phenomenal. This is a very rare example of her work and most likely you will never see one again. Excellent condition.

Unlined and slips over the head to wear. The front collar can be adjusted with the tie as described above. Each cuff has a snap to close. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. There are little bits of blue dye on the front and back panel that looks like it has run a touch but I believe this is inherent to this fabric and this may have been like that since the day it was made. I do not think it is a flaw, but rather a result of the fact that the fabric was hand screened. Tagged a vintage Thea Porter UK 10. The easy cut should allow it to fit a range of sizes.

• The twin of this dress was photoed for Vogue that season 
• A rare example of an all black Faye Dress.
• The Faye dress was named after Faye Dunaway and Thea made these in various fabrications starting in 1968. These were one of her most iconic designs. This is the only one I've ever seen outside of the Vogue shot in a single solid colour. Given her extremely limited run on certain pieces it could only be one of a couple that exist. It is truly a very special piece.
• The neckline has a high collar that wraps around the neck.
• The body skims over you to a seam that is centred along the front waist and sits slightly high. Black silk chiffon is heavily gathered into that seam and falls down into the skirt. 
• A panel of silk falls from under the arm to the hem and then that gathered-in area repeats at the back. This gives you a touch of shape through the front and back while still keeping the waist loose and generous in feel. It's a very clever design detail that is a signature of her classic Faye dresses.
• Each sleeve is gathered onto the top of the shoulder and then they are cut to be extremely wide and full flaring out to their ends. A wide black satin ribbon finishes the edge while a second ribbon sits above that for added detail. That same double ribbon treatment runs all the way around the hem of the dress.
• These Faye dresses were not a true caftan but they did have that easy to wear feel to them that her caftan pieces also have. This is an exceptional and rare example of her work.
• Unlined and has a touch of transparency to it so you would have to wear something underneath if you wanted it to be opaque
• It closes with a zipper at the back and hook & eye at the back of the neck.

• The pants have a flat front and are pressed down the front and back of the pants. They have wide legs and a slight flare at the bottom. The pants close with a back zipper.
• The set gives you the versatility of being able to mix a match with other pieces in your wardrobe
• Both pieces are fully lined in a brown silk

Arnold Scaasi was born Arnold Isaacs in Montreal and the name Scassi is simply his own surname in reverse. He studied in Montreal and in Paris, apprenticed at the house of Paquin and then worked with the legendary Charles James. In 1964 he opened own couture salon. He dressed Hollywood stars like Lauren Bacall, Diahann Carroll and Elizabeth Taylor. He dressed several first ladies including Mamie Eisenhower, Hillary Clinton and both the Bush first ladies. He even once bragged that he refused to give Jackie clothes for free. He was the man behind the scandalous 1969 Barbra Streisand sheer trouser outfit that she collected her Oscar in, and he was presented with the Council of Fashion Designers of America Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996. The dress is from his main label and these were very well made.

This great little Arnold Scassi dress is just fantastic. The fabric used for this dress is equally fantastic. It is a black net with embroidered dots that cover the entire surface. Onto the skirt are little cut out organza flowers that are applied in rows. The bottom of the skirt changes from netting to a silk organza that has larger versions of the embroidered and organza flowers to create the lower hem. One side of the skirt is scooped up with a little cluster of the flowers to hold it in place. More of the cut outs are scattered over the bottom part of the hem. Underneath the skirt are two doubled over layers of silk tulle that give the dress the volume that you see. The bodice is strapless and the netting has been gathered vertically all the way around to create soft gathers. A wide band sits just under that to give a beautiful cinched in feel. Excellent condition with a small note below.

Fully lined in a black silk through the bodice and the skirt is lined with layers of black tulle. Lightly boned through the bodice. It closes with a back zipper. I see some separation around the hem near the bottom here and there between the embroidered edges and organza on the flowers. Please see the photo after the label shot for an example. Hand finishes

This is the work of Elinor Simmons who designed for the Malcolm Starr label from the early 1960s to 1972. She excelled at the metallic and chic pieces that the label was known for and this is a wonderful example of her work. It is even better in person. It is a really gorgeous little set.

This set has a simple cut that is made glamorous by the wonderful fabric choice. The fabric has a raised print that has been created by the way the fabric is stitched in and around the raised parts to the design. It gives it this puffed effect that is fantastic. It has a touch of weight to it so that it holds the shape. The raising of the design gives it a tone on tone effect and then parts of it have been finished with gold metallic thread for a subtle bit of glitz. The inner dress is a simple sheath that is cut so that it skims over the body and flares out as it reaches the hem. It has little capped sleeves and the neckline is a simple scoop. Over this is a matching jacket with a cropped cut. It has a neat little collar and slight box cut. It closes with three buttons down the front and I love that has properly made button holes. When the dress is worn on its own it has that touch of a mod feel that the sixties were all about but once the jacket is on it has a more refined feel. Excellent condition.

Both pieces are lined in a gold silky rayon. The dress closes with a back zipper and the jacket with three buttons at the front. Hand finishes and tagged a vintage 6. Pockets along the front seams.
