The exterior of the dress is fashioned out of black silk that has a slightly raised gold dot. I believe that each dot has been hand painted! The fabric is amazing - it feels so unusual and wonderful - you will be constantly touching it! The cut of this dress is really astounding and as good as it looks off the hanger it is more amazing on a body! It has a high neckline with a† huge exaggerated and point collar. The top skims over he bust and has little gathers just under to emphasize. The sleeves are really amazng - they are huge and actually cut to points at the top so you can wear them high and crazy or just have them pouf. The waist starts high under the bust line and skim over the waist and swings out over the hips in a delicious swoop. It has a belt that is original to the dress and it can be worn with or without the belt. The belt is completely covered in the same fabric. The back is really unexpected and the detail that makes this dress really fabulous - a simple hook and eye close it at the top of the neck and then it is completely open to the waist in one sexy slit. Truly a piece of history and a work of art. A superb example of this time period and in excellent condition.
A fantastic and early Patullo-Jo Copeland piece that is very well made and has a really unusual fabric as well. You can see the influence of the late 20s and 30s in the shape and cut still! The bodice is made of a fine black silk taffeta that has an unusual stripe of yarn worked directly into the fabric. It creates little rows with looped "balls" all along each and has a slight 3D effect too! Really wonderful to see in real life! The neckline is high and has an adorable bow worked into it that sits at one side. The sleeves fall just below the elbow and the dress is cut to follow the torso down past the hips. Once it gets past the hip a kicky fine wool crepe skirt adds a nice touch of movement! A really wonderful piece that is fairly rare and in excellent condition.
An amazing and hard to find early 1940s silk moss crepe topper that has the most amazing bow design going across the front done in three rows of gold sequins! Cut to skim past the waist this one zips at the side and has an attached half belt at the back that allows you to cinch in the waist but without covering the front design. Hand sequined and each sequined design finishes with those darling bow! It is stunning and in great condition! Item# S338
The forties are so on trend this season (hurrah!) and I have some fantastic pieces to share. This one is really exceptional. Its a masterpiece of draping! Made of a fluid heavier black silk mixed with an ice blue liquid silk satin inset along the front. Its deceptive size wise as it is cut to drape - my mannie is actually a small and it is not pinned on her just draped so it will fit a variety of figures. It slips on and the front satin is actually cut almost to the waist. This is done so you can fold it over and drape it into place. Attached ties wrap around to cinch or be ultra brave and leave them at the back and allow it to plunge! There is miles of fabric in the inset and I adore the icy blue color. This has a definite madame Gres feel to the draping and is a fabulous example of function blened with bias cut draping. Excellent condition.
What a glorious 1940s swing dress! Made out of a black silk crepe that drapes wonderfully when on. It has that touch of thirties influence still with a slightly wider cut through the bodice and looser drape which makes it very flattering. The skirt is long and lean with a flat pleat detail high on one hip to give the suggestion of a swag and also to add to the illusion of a nipped in wast. Of course the showstopper on this dress is that spectacular flower that runs across the bodice and is done completely with hand applied sequins in greens, pinks ands silvers. The design is spectacular! This dress is everything you want in a 1940s piece and is a real jaw dropper. Excellent condition. Item# D449
This beautiful and all original swing dress is screened with a bright and vivid floral design on the skirt and has a padded floral detail on one shoulder. The color is amazingly true and bright and is screened on a light silk crepe base. The fabric is stunning - it is a high quality silk crepe that has a slight stretch so is easy and comfortable when on. The dress itself has lots of fine seaming and detailing and is extremely eye catching. The front has a gathered and scooped neckline with side shoulders that are gathered as well. One shoulder has a stunning cut out and padded floral bouquet attached that perfectly picks up the design of the skirt. The skirt is cut fairly lean with a soft, flattering Aline and is gathered up at the front into that angular line of the dropped waistline. The contrast between the black and the color of the skirt and that shoulder derail is really stunning. Extremely pretty and bright and a real find. Excellent condition

This is an absolutely stunning example of the 1940s film noir, femme fatale dress. It is a masterpiece of drape and the fabric is equally wonderful. A matte crepe silk has a couple dancing worked into and through the silk in a relief that has a slight matte silk satin feel to it. These swirl across the dress and add a beautiful second layer of texture and interest. The cut of this piece is amazing and worthy of any of the great current designers who specialize in drape and cut., The shoulders are string with light padding and the sleeves narrow and button in a row at each wrist, The waist nips in and the skirt drapes on the bias to form a stunning draped creation. It narrows at the hem and at the front is a bias cut draped panel that emphasizes a girls shape without adding any bulk or volume on the actual hips. Genius and in excellent condition.

Beautiful, original swing silk printed dress screened with a bright and vivid† huge floral design screened onto both sides of the dress. The color is amazingly true and bright - a really stunning piece! It is very easy to wear - it just slips on over the head and falls into place. The fabric is stunning - a high quality silk† with lots of fine seaming and flat pleat detailing. The front has a gently scooped neckline and the skirt is cut fairly lean with a soft, flattering Aline. The silk is very high grade and the contrast with the pop of color is really stunning. It has a couple of small flaws so please read the full description below. Extremely pretty and bright. Item# D416
I love this gown! There is something whimsical and wonderful about these pieces form the 40s that incorporated striping of vibrant colour don't you think? It seems to convey an instant bit of joy! This is a really pretty piece and though it is not perfect 9see condition description below) it is so unusual and pretty that I think it deserves a few more rounds on a dance floor before its retired permanently! The bodice is simply cut and has a fantastic wide swath of that ribbon detail added. It extends around the neck halter style and a huge bow has been created - all perfectly placed to silhouette the face as prettily as possible. The skirt has miles of fabric and drapes beautifully. That same wide ribbon has been sewn on an angle so you get the illusion that it encircles the top portion of the skirt and fools the eye into an extra bit of movement. The colors are classic 1940s - pinks and greens mixed with a deep blue and yellow - all on a black silk taffeta a base. Gorgeous!
Made from prized early silky rayon this dress is just wonderful. It appears to have never been worn, or worn very little and has been stored properly for all these years so the color is as crisp and vibrant as the day it was made! The design is just stunning. A soft dove grey backdrop has a slight pink undertone to it. Onto this is screened beautiful bouquets of flowers in a stylized painting type of look. The colors that have been used are really beautiful and when combined with that fabric....! The cut is simple and sweet. A high collar has pretty lucite buttons to accent. A scooped bodice seam adds pretty detail. The waist nips in and the skirt is cut on the bias and there is actually quite a bit of fabric in that skirt - it moves wonderfully! It has a slight nod to the twenties in that its not meant to fit tightly† - it just skims the body and drapes. Wonderful condition.
I love these striped dresses from the late 1930s, early 1940s. They were all the rage then and have fully stood the test of time, looking chic and fresh now. The colors, the care in lining up the stripes, the fabric - all perfection! This on is really unusual as it is a full length proper evening dress. The skirt is a wonderful and dramatic A line shape - it basically cascades out from the waist and the placement of the striped add to the shape. The bodice is cut halter style with gorgeous black faceted dome buttons, each with a rhinestone at the top. The collar is large and high and the waist nips in. I love how the striping all meets at an inverted angle along the seams. The fabric is a silk taffeta with ribbons of silky rayon worked directly into the fabric. The square cut, low back is just fabulous - it is the exact right touch to finish this wonderful piece. Killer forties gown and in excellent condition. Extremely pretty and extremely bright. Excellent condition. Item# E426

The fabric of this dress only just manages to take center stage over its superb lines! It is that perfect silky rayon you can only find from this time period and is as crisp and bright and vivid as the day it was made. The cut of this dress is as equally gorgeous with lots of extra details you want in a dress from this time period. It has a square neckline with a ties set at each side† The top skims over the bust and nips in at the waist. The skirt skims over the hips to a slight flare as it ends below the knees. The back of the skirt is really where it gets seriously fabulous - four tiers of fabric have been painstakingly gathered into the tiniest of ruching at the top of each panel. This gives the dress a superb sauciness and a bit f a thrill as you walk away! A superb example of this time period and in excellent condition. Item# D396
This is a lovely combination of a nude handmade lace with a floral design combined with a peach silk. The bottoms are wide legged cropped pants with an adorable, wide lace ruffle finishing each hem. It has ties to create some shape and a sexy V plunge at the back. Rare larger size. Excellent condition and appears to have never been worn.

Amazing black silk wool crepe is classic fitted swing from the late forties but with remarkable detailing! The dress itself is cut simply - a long lean skirt with just the slightest of an A-line cut to it. It nips in at the waist and the bodice is simple with a slight V neckline. lightly padded shoulders and short sleeves. A little swag detail sits at one hip. But to this simple dress they have added remarkable silk cord fringe details in little groupings over the entire surface! This gives the piece so much movement and interest! It really take a simple back dress into OMG territory! In excellent condition. Item# D359
Alix of Miami is one of my favorite labels that just does not get a lot of hype. But their dresses are really well made, they used top notch grades of cottons and the prints screened on them where some of the best of the day - the colors are crisp and true! This dress is fitted and has lots of lovely details you just don't find in modern versions. The bust is all seamed with pink piping that runs under the bust and then around the waistline - helping to create that bombshell curve every girl wants when she wears a dress like this! The fabric has a slight diamond indent texture to it and darling pink flowers & greenery from top to bottom. It is gorgeous! Mint condition.
A really wonderful late forties, early fifties bombshell of a dress that is made of a inky black matte silk satin with little bows embroidered through the fabric. These bows each are accented with a burst of black tube beads in their centers too so you get a subtle glint of the beads when you move. The edge is detailed with a looped bead fringe so every time you move they move! The top is kept simple and sexy with straps for the shoulders and a simple bodice and the skirt has a bit of built in netting just under the waist so that vixen hourglass shape is emphasized. Wonderfully constructed and certainly not your basic black dress! Excellent condition!
What a beauty! In person this present as a more white and turquoise print with no tinge of yellowing to the fabric at all - that is a trick of the light when it was photoed! The cut is divine with a fitted silhouette and the kind of detailing to the shoulders and neckline that make a vintage lover swoon. All the seams are set vertically and it is these seams that give the dress its shape. This used much more fabric then a conventional dress so even though it has no label that is a great clue that it is a potential designer piece. One wide fabric strap curves over the right shoulder and the other slants up from the bodice giving it a one shoulder effect and then a wonderful draped panel of fabric is attached and adds a gorgeous element! Really pretty and feminine! Excellent condition.

Absolutely gorgeous 1950s dress in a deep and pretty blue silk. I love the cut of the dress with its lean skirt that skims over the hips and ends just past the knees. The waist is nipped in and cam be cinched in further with the matching original belt. I love the curved sweetheart neckline and the sleeves are just amazing! Each poufed cap sleeve has a little open are running down its top for a sexy glimpse of skin! It is a beautiful, classic dress, that is wonderfully made and in excellent condition. Item# D459

A stunning ribbon and net 1950s dress is just a delight to have. The really wonderful and extraordinary fifties pieces are getting harder and harder to come by and this one is a true beauty! Silk crepe a lingerie pink taupe nude color has been sewn in strips onto a silk netting hand dyed to match. I absolutely love how the bands all line up at every seam - the hours it would have taken to match this up and to do all of this while working on netting! I cannot even imagine! A sweetheart bodice, soft and romantic shoulder straps and low V back complete this beauty. Styled with a light crinoline that is not included - you can of course wear it without. Excellent condition.
This wonderful little cardigan is a true find. It is in fantastic shape and has beautiful detailing. You often see these with a bit of front beading on them or some other type of decoration but this one has both a pretty and soft fur collar and stunning panels of embroidered silk ribbon. The ribbon depicts fantastical scenes and I feel that it may be from an earlier era - the workmanship and detailing are too fine for even the fifties. Parts of the horse design are even padded at the back to give the design a 3D element. I love the classic fifties styling with its cropped cut and loose fit through the body. The knit feels like a high grade wool and cashmere mix and it is even lined in a fine silk chiffon as well. It is such a charming piece and a great way to work a fabulous piece of the past into your wardrobe. Excellent condition
Fully lined in a taupe silk that is hand placed with a wide grosgrain ribbon to finish the back panel , and interior sleeve ends. It closes at the front with hidden set hook and eye. Carolyn Schnurer traveled the world - no small feat back in the 40s and 50s when she was designing, and her clothing always has that mix of the exotic - often through the prints and fabrics - and a certain sense of ease that one would need if traveling and seeing the world. She was one of the early sportswear focused designers and is known in particular for her gorgeous little swimsuit and day wear. I don't find her pieces often which is a shame because they are really well made and quite pretty. This is a lovely example of her work and made of that crisp cotton that one finds from this era. The color is a deep olive with a pretty print and border that highlights the cut of the dress. The bodice is kept simple and sleek and this tops an elaborately pleated skirt. The skirt is made of a series of perfect knife pleats that loosen as the near the hem for a pretty swish of volume. Excellent condition but please read notes below.
Unlined and closes with a small back painted metal zipper at the neck and then one that runs down the side. It is in excellent condition but it looks to me like the sleeve opening was re-done at some point in its history. It is well done but seems a little lower then it would be. I suspect it was done to open a tight armhole opening. Priced accordingly and a bit of a bargain because of it.

The fabric of this dress is utterly amazing. A silk brocade has muted copper thread woven into it from top to bottom. The pattern is done so that some areas of the copper or bold, some fine and delicate. This serves to allow the light to catch the threads in different ways so it seems to almost change color and hue as you move turning the wearing into a seemingly liquid molten ripple. The cut is classic fifties with a nipped in waist topping an extremely full circles skirt. A wedding gown feel row of buttons close the dress at the front and the shoulders are left unseamed and rounded as to not break the beautiful refined line created. Each sleeve is long and slim and a jaunty, pointed cuff sits at each wrist, The collar can sit high and up, or it can be folded slightly to show off the pert little points. I absolutely love the unusual, high rounded half pockets - they are amazing! A real treasure and in excellent condition
This is a beautifully constructed 1950s Ceil Chapman constructed from a customs screened, printed polished cotton - an unusual fabric choice for Chapman but one that works spectacularly. Chapman is renowned for being one of Marlyn Monroe's favorite designers and its easy to see why - this dress scream bombshell! The dress really showcases Chapman's attention to detail and love of gathering and stitching the fabric. The techniques used are infamous amongst girls in the know for how these dresses drape over a women's body to create curves whether you have them or not! The skirt is lean and fitted and looks to be a wrapped sarong but that is just a clever illusion. The waist nips in and the bust has been hand draped and gathered into soft pleat detailing Those are all hand placed and stitched pucker pleats along the top allowing it to flares out a bit when worn - it is wonderful! Excellent condition. Item# 2-DD330
This dress was featured in a September 2010 issue of Hello Magazine!
This is an amazing mid-fifties numbered silk Christian Dior London dress that was sold through Holt Renfrew. The dress is so representative of that time period for the house of Dior. The "New Look" was in full swing and the excessive use of fabric and the full skirted silhouette is presented beautifully in this dress. The shawl or portrait collar is expansive and covers the entire shoulder - in notes for other shawled collared dress The Met comments "A full skirt balances a nipped waist or a portrait collar counteracts a fitted bodice in numerous examples of Dior's work". I love the soft bow made of multiple pieces of fabric - pieced into place rather then ties as one long expanse. The sleeves are to the elbow and the bodice fitted and nipped in at the waist. The full and beautiful skirt shows off the gorgous floral woven silk to its greatest possible advanatge with yards of fabric flowing out form the waist. It is exquisite and a stunning, rare and early Dior! Item# DD847
This is one of the best black dresses I have ever come across. It is a silk jersey fabric that has been exquisitely gathered, hand draped and tacked, to form that fantastic soft pleat effect. The neckline has a twist detail and the silk cascades over and around each shoulder. The skirt is fabulously swingy, with lots of movement. There are actually miles of fabric over the interior silk lining in that skirt but it is so light it falls and drapes perfectly. A silk satin flat bow finishes. The dress is superbly made and the photographs do not come close to giving this dress its full due. Its one of those "take your breathe away" because it is just so well done. Excellent condition!
Stunningly beautiful silk satin petal dress is absolutely to die! Ingenious example of the care to construction and the high level of execution of the period. The fabric alone is brilliant - it changes from a soft pale pink gradually deepening as it nears the petalled hem to a deep true pink. The jacket does the opposite with a deeper hue at the shoulders and then gradually softening at the waist to match the color of the dress. The jacket is a stunning, sculptural masterpiece with curves shoulders and seaming to create a fitted, yet rounded shape. The dress is just magnificent - a simple strapped bodice tops that stunning petalled skirt - the petals change not only color but size - starting as small petals around the waist to huge and gorgeous ones at the final bottom layer. The high level of workmanship that would be required to make a piece like this is astonishing! It's a gorgeous, unusual and wonderful set. Excellent condition
I love the classic cut of this suit with it's box jacket and slim pencil skirt. And I could go on for days about the fabric! This was a custom made piece for a client that traveled to Bombay in the fifties and it is really one of the best example of silk from this period that I have seen! The skirt is a simple slightly A-line cut meant to skim over your curves and feel refined and classy. The jacket that classic fifties box cut and it has the most amazing buttons I have seen. I can only imagine the girl who had this made - how fabulous she must have been! Each button is an elaborate pointed dome, filigreed† and set with a polished turquoise stone! The print is a custom screened and a brilliant array of blues. It is simplicity mixed with extraordinary fabric. Excellent condition
This is a lovely feminine silk-look satin brocade cocktail dress in a pretty soft golden tone with an elaborate taupe bow detail. The detailing wraps around the bust to define the waist at the front, continues around the back and then two panels cascade to the hem. This is classic 1950s and quite wonderful. There Is just the faintest of a gold undertone to the color - here it looks slightly more of a pale yellow but the color is richer feeling in person. The skirt is cut in an exaggerated and full A-line that has a built in underskirt made of tulle that holds that fullness but without the "cupcake" look that can be harder to wear for most girls. The bodice is squared off with wide straps in the same fabric that curve up and over the shoulder to a slightly lower back. For the perfect final detail, little yellow rhinestones are scattered over the dress in hand prong setting. Very romantic feeling and pretty. Presents as excellent condition with a couple of minor items to note below.
Interlined through the bodice with silk organza and the skirt has a built in tulle underskirt. It closes with a side painted metal zipper. There is a the slightest bit of discoloration on the fabric under one arm. Very wearable as is. It would not photo and is mentioned for accuracy. There is some light foxing/scuffing marks on one of the back ties along where it naturally folded on the Priced accordingly.

Very rare and very fine Irene dress that is in exceptional, unworn condition. A true collectible and a definitive piece of fashion history! Irene pieces are hard to find and to get one with the original store tags still attached is just a treat! Made of a fine silk the dress is cut in a sleek sheath that nips in at the waist and follows your curves. A hand set curved inset sits at the bust for a little visual detailing. The back is where all the drama is. It is scooped rather low and has two wide bands f hand set curved fabric detailing the scoop. Large flat buttons add more interest. I love the simplicity of the dress and yet when it is on it is far from feeling simple! It has a understated sexiness and is just divine! Unworn, dead-stock in perfect condition. Item# DD797

I highly suspect that this is a piece of demi-couture that has long lost its label. It has that feel and the workmanship supports this. I have taken a photo of the inner seams and you can see that the edges are hand finished and others are ribbon finished. Regardless of its origins it's a stunning piece that is of very high quality and I think that in person you will be more then pleased with it. The dress is almost startlingly in its beauty and exquisite construction. It is made of a beautiful rich silk satin that has been custom screened with a deep, rich blue floral print that has a soft and romantic feel. The tones and washed floral pattern is beautiful and the effect of those blue hues against the black is beautiful. The neckline is cut square with capped high sleeves and a simple fitted bodice. The waist nips in and the skirt has an stunning curve to it with panniers and slight bustling at the hips to create that beautiful curved shape. It has its original belt that wraps around the waist to add even more shape and from which a large half bow is attached. This ends in a beautiful fringe. It is refined glamour mixed with the touch of the avant garde and very beautiful. Excellent condition

Stunning and unusual Dior platter hat that is a really amazing color of burnt orange. A christian Dior Original Hat it is probably late 50s, early 60s. The fabric used is a mohair felt and has an almost "fur" feel to it. It is meant to sit on top of the head and then slant down. Hand stitched inside where it is gathered under the top button. Two matching, original hat pins come with it! Excellent condition!
Truly beautiful and exceptional piece designed by Douglas Curry and labeled as a Douglas Curry Original. This is the second dress I have had by Curry and both have been exceptionally well made and he had a unique and very fashion forward aesthetic. This particular dress is unusual and is also impeccably constructed. It is cut to show a girl's curves but in a sexy, chic kind of way. The body of the dress is a sheath of texture silk fabric with a high square neck that has just a hint of a curve at the neckline. The waist nips in and the skirt is fitted. The back is dipped into a V under that spectacular caped detailing. The cape is of course the highlight of the piece and what makes it stand apart. A flat expanse of the same silk flows from the shoulders for a dramatic and sculptural couture like feel!! It is always hard to photo black pieces so expect it to be better in person! It is absolutely stunning and a really unusual LBD. Excellent condition!

Black silk chiffon is gathered and hand draped over a crossed bodice that plunges in both the front and the back! A swath of silk sits at the waist to form a cummerbund, nip in the waist and really accentuate that bombshell shape. The skirt has built in layers of tulle and is fantastically full with lots of movement! It is styled with an additional light crinoline but does have fullness on its own so it really can be worn either way depending on how dressed you want to make it. Gorgeous and rich looking it is one of those great little black dresses you will end up wearing again and again. Excellent condition
Made of a stunning and unusual shade of orange printed silk - I would best call it a deep tangerine - with a customs design screened onto it. The front is gathered in great, elaborate pleating and gathering that is caught up by the extended fabric straps that go over each shoulder. This cleverly draws the eye into the waist and gives the illusion of an even greater nipped in waist and hourglass silhouette. I love how the straps glide over each shoulder and meet close together together at the back, its a nice, sexy detail that is a little unusual and gives the feeling of a barer back then what it actually is! The skirt is very full and has a built in underskirt - it is photographed here as it naturally falls with no extra crinolines added. The bottoms of the pleats are caught up with hand placed tacking so that the skirt falls exactly as the designer intended - shaped and slightly sculptural. Amazing and in excellent condition. This dress was featured in a September 2010 issue of Hello Canada magazine
Designer and artist, Tachi Castillo lived in Taxco Mexico and made pieces like this fantastic embroidered skirt by hand for the tourist market. Examples of her work are in museums like the FIDM in Los Angeles. Castillo was creative and her work went outside the typical skirts you see form this time period that typically depict Mexican Folklore and village life. Skirts like this are the exception - this one for example depicts wild jungle animals - elephants, lions† giraffes and birds flit over it's surface, surrounded by brilliant flowers. The base is a thick cotton twill that gives the skirt body and each animal and flowers is hand done with a yarn. It is quite amazing! Excellent, museum quality condition. Item# S371
