Stunning 1930s Hammered Silk Satin Deep Red Dress w Low Back & Unusual Sleeves

The three dresses I have for you today are more from that same single owner collection that I recently did two capsules from. Her collection was lovingly sourced over decades and she has decided that it is time let them back out into the world for others to enjoy. The first two drops centered around the 1930s but we have expanded into her collection to add some other decades this time as well. Outstanding designs from these eras are increasingly hard to find. Her collection represents some of the best of the era that I have seen in a very long time. Most are in excellent condition and the few included that do have some flaws are such outstanding designs that I feel there is still room for someone to love them and wear them as they are, or perhaps to put in the additional work to repair them.

This beautiful deep red dress is made of an early hammered silk satin that has an unusual weight to it in that it is slightly more structured then the more fluid examples you usually see. This helps the dress retain its shape and volume. The fabric alone is something you will never see in today's modern fabric production. It has this subtle texture to it and is absolutely incredible to see in person. The dress has no closures, it just simply slips over the head and drapes into place. The bodice skims over you at the front and then the back is left almost completely bare. A matching fabric belt adds shape at the waist. The front dips in a V and the collar extends out into these unusual sleeves that curve over the front of your shoulder and then loop around under the arm to connect there. It is so unusual and incredible. When this is on this it is going to create a scoop of fabric that falls behind and around your arm. To help hold the upper part of the dress in place, two straps extend from just under that flaring silk at the shoulder and run down the back. The skirt falls from there. At the front it has and almost column feel to it that widens out to the hem. At the back there is a full extra panel inset that begins at the base of the scoop at the back and falls all the way to the hem. Where that extra panel hits the hip area it opens into large inverted pleats on either side which gives the back even more volume. The back of the skirt is also cut slightly longer so you get this beautiful sweeping feel of skirts behind you. This one even came with a pretty rhinestone dress clip that sits at the base of the V at the front. It is an absolute beauty and so unusual. Excellent condition with a small note below.

Unlined and slips on to wear and cut on the bias. All the inner seams are finished by hand and/or pinked. It comes with the matching fabric belt and dress clip.. There is the occasional very small scuff to the fabric here and there and there are some light fold marks in the fabric from storage that I have not been able to completely get out. Some grubbiness at the hem. All minor but mentioned for accuracy. For a garment almost 100 years old it is in amazing condition.
