This is a dress that was made for the shops. While you saw elements of it in some of the pieces that walk the runway for both the Fall 2015 RTW how and the Couture show there was no exact twin to it on the runway. In 2015 Valentino was headed by both Maria Grazia Chiuri and PierPaolo Piccioli. They had stepped into Mr Valentino's shoes and were breathing new life into the brand. Most of the looks towards the middle of the fall show had this same very minimalist feel and were done primarily in black with pops of white. I love how this dress showcases their more simplistic and minimal side. It is an amazing dress. 

The fabric is a silk that is heavy and has an almost fine wool suiting feel to it. The weight of the fabric is what holds the dress in place over you. The front is cut straight across the neckline and then it is brought starkly down the sides and set to sit just over the seam at the waist. This is repeated at the back with an addition of a long open keyhole that displays a slice of bare skin from neck to waist. This creates a rectangular cut out on either side from your shoulder to the waist. If you dare you can wear it bare or you can lay this over top of something. What you put underneath is dependent on how much coverage you want from something with just a tiny strap at to wearing a full on sleeved shirt underneath will work. The waist nips in and and then the skirt falls to the floor or ankle depending on your height. The skirt is what gives the piece its weight. There is an amazing amount of fabric used for the skirt. This is because it is flat pleated all the way around your waist and then each of those pleats open up at about 3 1/2 inches under the waist line to the hem. Inside each the open pleat are four more top stitched knife pleats that gradually open as they reach the hem. The detail that this creates all the way around the skirt when you move is amazing. When you stand still everything falls like a normal pleated skirt but when you move and they start to open and you see all those top stitched inner pleats the entire thing just comes to life. It is these touches and extra details that always make Valentino pieces that much more special. It beautifully executed and even better in person. Excellent condition

Fully lined in a black silk through the bodice and the skirt is unlined. It closes with a button and loop at the back of the neck and a hidden set zipper that starts at the waist. Tagged a modern Valentino 40. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. There is no give at the waist so make sure it is the proper measurement for where it sits because it sits touch low.

Valentino launched his ready-to-wear label in 1962 two years after opening his atelier in Rome. He eventually expanded and added other boutiques. His first New York boutique launched in the fall of 1970 and it caused a sensation. Traffic was backed up 3 blocks with everyone who was anyone trying to get in on opening night. More boutiques followed including one at Bergdorfs. He encouraged his couture clients to also shop in his boutiques. He wanted everyone to have the Valentino experience and noted that he often carried the lines he created for his Couture label into the boutique work. The fabric and construction details were still remarkably close in quality to his couture pieces at this point in time. The line between the two was often blurred and on this set you can see that in the hand finishing that is has. I absolutely love this set. It is gorgeous.

The dress is made out of a black silk that holds its shape and volume beautifully. This is a two piece set made up of a dress and its matching jacket. They are fantastically beautiful worn together but I also love that by having the two pieces it gives you more styling options and you can wear then separately and mix and match with other things you already own. The dress is suspended by two tiny straps that curve up and over each shoulder. A wide set V sits at the front and then it dips lower across at the back to leave a bare expanse of open skin. It is cut to be more fitted to the waist and then under that it is all volume. The skirt has an incredible amount of silk in it that really shows best when you move. The lightness of the silk causes the skirt to billow out and move around you as you move, yet it still has enough weight that it holds that full feeling when you stand still. When this is on and you are walking the effect that this creates is absolutely gorgeous. A full 13" ruffle circles the lower hem and it has been sewn is on top of the skirt and not simple seamed onto the edge. This is a clever technique that leaves fabric inside and behind the skirt and this helps to hold its shape. This uses extra fabric so it's not something you see as much anymore. And it has pockets. The jacket is a thing of beauty in its own right. It widens out from a soft shoulder and curves around and up from the hem to the neckline. I love the tiny ruffled finish that follows the edge. The sleeves are incredible and each is cut to be a wide bell shape. By their ends they are each a full 20" around and the ruffle that finishes each sleeve is a little more then that even. It is absolutely beautiful. This is a stunning Valentino from this time period. Excellent condition.

This is an incredible dress and it has the added provenance of having been worn by poet Rupi Kaur to the South Asian Excellence at the Oscars Event for the 2024 Oscars season. I love that this gives you the chance to see the dress on the body and how beautifully it falls. The dress was made for the shops and dates to the 1998-2002 era based on similar cuts that I have had in the shop and what was on the runways. he dress is exceptional and you only have to take one look at Rupi in the dress to see just how fabulous this is on an actual body

This is a gorgeous dress. I love its bareness at the top with the full open back and the low draped neckline. It is a little sexier then some of his work tends so be but it still manages to feel elegant and refined. It is a dress that really comes alive on the body. It is very light and easy to wear despite its extensive bead work and sequins. It is cut to perfectly fit and skim over the body. It is made from a  lightweight bias cut silk chiffon and a silk net that is then covered in thousands of little black sequins and various shaped beads. The bodice is cut into a halter with tiny little beaded straps that curve up and over the shoulders. At the back the straps cross over your bare back which then dips into a low curve across the small of your back. This leaves the back almost completely bare. The front also has a bare feel. The halter covers the breasts and then drapes low in between. There is no seam at the waist to break the line of the eye. The combination of wide bands of the sequin and beads highlight the curves and shape of the dress and those are separated by expanses of the black silk chiffon. The bias cut of the fabric simply curves it in and over you to create shape. The skirt flows to the floor and widens out just a touch as it nears the hem. I love the way that the skirt is cut a little longer at the back to give the feel of a slight train there. Mixed into the beaded pattern are little bits of black silk netting that add an extra bit of texture to the dress. It is a beautiful example of Mr Valentino's work with the added bonus of its recent red carpet provenance. Excellent condition with a minor note below

Fully lined in a black silk chiffon and closes with a back hidden zipper at the base of the scoop at the back. Hand finishes. There are some missing beads and some inner repairs / tiny beginnings of stress openings on the fabric near the ends of some of the lines of bead work on the train and bottom of the skirt. It was worn on the red carpet exactly as it is so these small flaws obviously have no impact when worn

When hunting for the provenance of this dress we found its twin attributed as being from Spring 2007 but I feel like it could be from somewhere between that the 2004 collection where he used ties like this one has to hold the dresses onto the body. I know I have seen this one somewhere at some point so one day on the future I am sure I will send its new owner a reference photo. It is one of the pieces that would have been made in limited quantities and it is utterly spectacular. It also has the significance of being from the final few years that Mr. Valentino was still designing before he retired. It is incredibly beautiful and it might even make an amazing wedding dress for the bride looking for a non-traditional choice or as an alternative dress in a more extended wedding celebration. And of course it could also be worn to any event.

This soft romantic pink silk chiffon dress is stunning on the body. The layers of chiffon float over each other to allow it to drape beautifully over the body and highlight your every curve in a very flattering way. The bodice has a soft and romantic feel to it and it is finished with his signature tiny pleat work that follows the way the silk has been laid out. A panel wraps around the top of the bodice and then under that more panels are set on angles that cross each other. At the side it splits and extends into two long ties that open out into silk chiffon panels that you then wrap and tie across the back. Panels of chiffon extend out from the top of the bodice to tie behind the neck and then there is a final little tie at the small of your back. This leaves bits of your back exposed and bare. Despite the romantic feel the dress has this gives it a very sexy feel at the same time. It is just tremendously beautiful. The way that all of the panels and ties are set are done to perfectly emphasize your curves and add that signature Valentino femininity. The workmanship is exquisite. Under the bodice there is a little panel of chiffon that floats around the hips. The skirt skims over the hips under that and then falls to the floor in a beautiful drape of chiffon. The front centre of the skirt is split. This lets you see a mile of leg as you walk or sit and it also gives you a sense of the three layers of silk chiffon that make up the skirt. The split allows the air to catch the layers and float around you as you walk. The skirt extends down slightly longer at the back so that you get a pretty sweeping feel as you walk. The fabric is feather light. It is incredible and I love it. No matter how good it looks in the photos when this is on and moving it is even better. Excellent condition.

Fully lined with pink silk chiffon and closes with a hidden set zipper at the low back waist and ties in place above that. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. Tagged a vintage Valentino 8. The ties make it adjustable, so this should fit a range of sizes

This dress is the twin of Look 3 for the Pre-Fall 2020 collection. For this collection Pierpaolo paid homage to the Fall 1968 Haute Couture collection and I have included the reference photos of those original pieces here. This famous print was originally done by Mr Valentino and were inspired by the blue and white in Chinese Delft print vases. It is also very close in style to the 2013 Valentino dress that was a part of the in the Met Museums 2015 "China: Through the Looking Glass" exhibit. When speaking of this collection to Vogue Piccioli said; “I want to maintain couture’s values even in the pre-fall collection. I like the idea of breaking its rules and translating them into a modern, spontaneous wardrobe, making something historical become contemporary.” and they went on to mention this print in particular saying that 'he picked from the archives... a beautiful print of Delft blue vases from a sophisticated 1968 couture collection. “I want Valentino to be lively and joyous,” enthused Piccioli. “For me, beauty means life, emotion, something that vibrates and is full of energy—not something removed that you look at from afar, as if on a pedestal.” Mary Holland wore its twin to a premier that season as well. It is beautiful and very special.

The dress is pristine and utterly beautiful. It is made of a feather light silk organza that has been printed with that beautiful blue and white design that gives a nod do the 1968 couture collection as described above. It is magical. The colour combines the soft ivory backdrop with that dreamy blue floral print. The print is beautiful and intricate. I love how he has placed the print over the bodice and skirt to accentuate the design and flow of the dress. The silk is feather light in weight and just floats beautifully over the body once on. It will softly move with the slightest breeze or movement on your part. The dress has a second layer of organza through the bodice and skirt which gives it just a touch less transparency and also helps to add to the airy and light feel that it has. The sleeves are a single layer of silk so you see your arm through the pattern. The neckline has a small neat collar and it buttons to close done the bodice with hidden set buttons. Note how careful the patterns has been lined up across the panel there. The bodice lightly skims over you to the nipped in waist. Each sleeve ends in a beautiful ruffles cuff. The skirt is spectacular. It is lazy gathered through the waist scene and then opens up to be very full to the floor. Because of the layering of the organza with the outer layer in the inner layer, it just floats and moves around you spectacularly when you move. It a just gorgeous and even better in person as you get more of a sense of the lightness of that stunning printed silk. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. Excellent condition

Christian Lacroix launched his Haute Couture house in 1987 and instantly caused a sensation around the world. A ready-to-wear line soon followed along with perfumes and menswear. His collections are always exotic, lavish affairs and his designs seemed to span the decades with their eccentric glamour pulled from multiple sources of inspiration. This dress is from the Spring 2001 collection and Vogue raved that "It's a very good moment for Christian Lacroix, now that graphic colors, feminine dressing and '80s references are a constant on the catwalks. The designer seized the moment and delivered one of his strongest, most consistent collections in seasons.Lacroix played up his masterful use of color with sexy patchwork strapless numbers and "painting-print" dresses with beaded insets, dangling chains and straps, and embroidered patches. Punky layered chiffons and muslins, ruffled, feathered and pleated, proved that Lacroix can move way beyond his signature pouf." A slight variation on this dress was shown for Look 46 in the show. I think this one is even better.

This Lacroix is magica;. A painted deep pink silk chiffon sits under a more open weave black lace netting and the effect that this creates is fantastic. The inner pink chiffon feels like it has been hand-painted and there is a beautiful abstract flower design running over its surface. One side of the bodice has a wider shoulder that curves up and then ties into place at the top of the shoulder. The other side is a thinner strap and the entire bodice is set on a deep angle at the front and again at the back. All of the seaming on this dress is set on angles and curves so that it feels very reminiscent of the old Hollywood days of the 20s and 30s. An angled panel runs across the waist and down to one hip and then the skirt is set into that coming up on an angle on one side. The skirt is phenomenal. There are yards in yards of silk and lace netting that cascade down and over the body fantastically. One side has a high slit so when you walk you have tons of leg showing. Ruffles cascade across all of the the angled seams that make up the skirt and this adds tremendous movement as you love. The skirt is cut longer at the back to trail out and around you and this combined with the lightness of the silk lets it billow out around you. It is an absolutely astonishingly beautiful piece and feels like a work of art. Phenomenal. Excellent condition.

There is a black silk chiffon through the bodice and a partial inner black silk chiffon inner skirt. It closes with a hidden set side zipper. There may be the occasional break in the lace but nothing I can see that is outstanding to note. Tagged a vintage Lacroix 38. It is all cut on the bias so there is a bit of give and I have measured the comfortable range when laying flat.

This is a gorgeous Fall 2005 John Galliano that has the added modern provenance of being the exact dress that Brie Larson wore to the Filming Italy Sardegna Festival in June of this year. It is a dress that was made for the shops but you can see its runway influence in the floral piece shown on the runway that season for Look 47. It is a dream dress and I love that we have now added to its history. 

This dress is absolutely dreamy. It is meant to skim over the body and it has that beautiful movement that Galliano is so well known for. It is made out of a combination of black netting for the upper bodice and then a bias cut black silk chiffon that it has texture in it for added interest. The netting covers the upper bodice and then curves over the shoulder to also cover your upper back. Attached to that is the long silk chiffon bodice that runs from the net to a dropped waist at about the hip level. The silk  is cut on the bias and you can see that the slight pattern in the chiffon is all set on an angle. Where this meets the skirt the seam is set on a curving angle that is reminiscent of Old Hollywood dresses from the twenties and thirties. The skirt is made of two tiers and each tier has lace edging with ruffles of the chiffon. Some also have added ruffles made of the black netting. I love how this ties all the elements of the dress together. The skirt has an amazing amount of fabric in it and it is light as a feather over the inner silk skirt. The smallest bit of air will catch the skirt and let it billow out around you as you move.  The final perfect touch are the embellishments that are applied by hand onto the bodice. Black and white flowers made of silk chiffon petals have been secured onto the silk with bursts of tiny little silver sequins. All of the edges on the flowers and the ruffles have been left raw in that beautiful way that Galliano loved to do. When this is on and you are walking the movement it creates is absolutely gorgeous. This is John at his best and it is a tremendously beautiful dress. Excellent condition

Fully lined in a black silk. It slips over the head with no closures. Comes with its original Galliano hang tag and was only worn once briefly by Brie and then cleaned. There are a couple of tiny black sequins near the edge of the neckline on the dress and we have left them to not risk causing a hole in the netting. We believe it’s intentional. The flowers have been hand applied. The silk is cut on the bias, so we put the comfortable range of measurements when the dress is laying flat below.

This Fall 2007 bridal look from Oscar de la Renta has runway roots. The dress in a more beige taupe was Look 68 on the runway for the Spring of 2006 and then a version in this ivory was included as part of the Fall 2007 bridal presentation. I love that he loved this dress so much that he repeated it. This dress was a stand out and has an beautiful romantic feel to it. My client wore the dress on its own but if you love the look of the runway you could easily add a little cropped cardigan to get that same feel.

This Oscar de la Renta dress is stunning. It would obviously make an amazing wedding piece for the bride but I think it is also a dress that could cross over and be worn to other events. The dress is made from an off white silk organza that has a swirling design applied onto the fabric by hand. The design that is set onto the dress are little curving panels of silk ribbon that have been gathered and placed onto the silk. You can clearly see the hand work from the back and I have shot a photo of that for you to see. These ribbon embellishments run around the top of the bodice, past the waist and then are placed over the entire skirt. The silk used for the dress is ultra light in weight and it is backed by a single layer of silk chiffon through the skirt. This gives the dress this feeling of lightness and airiness that is very beautiful. It feels almost weightless once on the body. The silk is just heavy enough to hold the shape and structure of the dress. It has a full built in boned corset inside the bodice so you don't have to worry about additional underpinnings. The skirt is very full and for most of these photos we added a light crinoline to the dress to show you that. Without an added underskirt it still has enough shape that it falls on its own perfectly and the last two full length shots are of the dress with no added underskirt for you to see. The bust is strapless and fitted across the bodice. It is cut to follow your curves and there are cups inside to lift the breasts. It tightly hugs the bodice and then nips in at the waist. The skirt flows directly out from the waist and is cut to have volume all the way around you. Every angle is drama and gorgeousness. It is cut slightly longer at the back so that it flows out behind you just a touch. I love the bareness of the shoulders that the strapless silhouette gives you. It is the perfect balance to the fuller skirt. It is a very stunning gown and is a beautiful example of Oscar's work. Excellent condition

There is a full built in corset that closes with its own zipper and then the dress closes over that with a hidden set zipper. The skirt is lined in an ivory silk organza. The crinoline that is in some of the photos is not included. I see one tiny area near the hem where the fabric has a slight change in texture. Please see the photo after the label shot. Anna Molinari and husband Gianpaolo Tarabini launched the Blumarine label in 1977 out of Capri and had their first catwalk show in 1980. By the 1990s they had opened their first stand alone shop. This is from the 2000s Sposa wedding collection and it is ja really gorgeous dress.

This dress is so pretty and romantic feeling. The design is quite unusual. The body of the dress has a V at the front and the back but then set inside and attached is a little chiffon under piece. It gives the dress the feel that you have layered it over a little semi -transparent chiffon bodice. It peaks out at the V at the front and again at the back. Then you have long sleeves that are made out of a single layer of the chiffon. These sit under the body of the dress and are set off the shoulders. They have cut outs at the top of each shoulder for a little bare skin there and then each one ends with a ruffle at the cuffs. The body of the dress skims over you from the bodice to the hips with a touch of shape near the waist area. It falls to the floor from there and gradually widens out as it hears the hem. The back is cut longer than the front so that it trails out behind you a bit and gives you that beautiful sweeping skirt. The main body of the dress has two feather light layers of chiffon covering an inner layer. This makes the entire dress feels light, airy and romantic. A pretty bow sits just under the bust and the edges have lace and ribbon detailing for the final perfect touches. It is absolutely gorgeous. Excellent condition.

This dress is from the Spring 2006 collection and it is a beauty. The collection was called "Coco meats, James Dean" and the idea was that Lagerfeld organized this imaginary meeting between the two. In real life they had never met but in his eyes he saw them as being rebellious figures and wanted to explore the meeting of the two stylistically. The twin of this dress walked the runway for Look 50. I love it.

This dress is gorgeous and everything you want in a Chanel. The dress is made out of a black silk taffeta with a fine black lace edging. The bodice has an almost scarf feeling front panel that goes up and behind the neck to tie and then it narrows down to the centre of the waist. It is completely edged in the black lace. This sits over an inner bodice at the front and then at the back the upper back is left bare except for two straps that angle down to meet the piece that curves around from the front. The dress skims over your bodice to a wide band of silk around the waist. Again we see the lace edging he has added for a pretty and feminine touch. The skirt is incredible. It has been pleated into tiny but soft pleats and the first tier of it is a more bubble shape. It is brought in under itself to a piece of inner elastic that holds it around your legs but still allows you to move. The silk extends out from that and you have all the volume of the gathered fabric to create a pretty ruffle underneath. There is a little bow that sits in the centre front of this final tier. The bottom of the ruffle is also finished in a pretty edging of black lace to perfectly tie it in with the bodice. It is so pretty and unusual and I love the flash of skin when you turn around. That unexpected touch of sexiness is fantastic. This is one of those dresses that only truly come to life when on. It is an amazing piece of Chanel and shows just how creative Karl was. It looks to have been worn very little if at all. Excellent condition.

The bodice is unlined and the skirt has an inner lining of the same taffeta that the dress is made out of. The dress zips to close at the back and then it has hidden hook and eye at the waist band and a decorative jet black Camellia flower button over those. Two more black Camellia flower buttons close the dress above that. The halter ties to close. It appears to have been worn very little if at all. Tagged a Chanel 38.
