Gorgeous 1930s Bias Cut Silk Velvet Dress w Silk Mesh & Applique Detailing & Incredible Sleeves
This is one of a dozen dresses from a single owner collection of beautiful 1930s dresses and I am very pleased to have this small capsule for you. Her collection was lovingly sourced over decades and she has decided that it is time let them back out into the world for others to enjoy. Outstanding designs from this era are increasingly hard to find. Her collection represents some of the best of the era that I have seen in a very long time. Most are in excellent condition and the few included in the capsule that do have some flaws are such outstanding designs that I feel there is still room for someone to love them and wear them as they are, or perhaps to put in the additional work to repair them. This is just a tiny sampling of her overall collection and I hope to have another series of these capsules in the future. Enjoy this first drop.
This is a stunningly beautiful silk velvet dress. It is really just incredible and it is now so rare and hard to find these in such amazing condition. This is a dress that is meant to be on an actual body and my dress form is not doing it anywhere near the justice it deserves. The dress is cut in that loose and easy way that pieces from this time period were done in. It is meant to skim over the bust, waist and hips and then the skirt falls to the floor from there. When you are standing still the skirt falls in a smooth column but when you move you see just how much volume is there. The upper bodice is incredibly beautiful. There is an insert of silk mesh that goes all the way around the front and back so you get a glimpse of bare skin all the way around. Above that is a gathered collar that extends out on each side across the top of the shoulders. Below where the mesh is inserted into the dress, it is done in a soft curving jagged pattern from the body of the dress. Running across the mesh is a beautiful trailing applique design made of silk velvet. It is all hand applied. The sleeves are the final perfect touch. Each is cut to widen out dramatically and they are a full 38" around by the time they reach their bottom hem. Once on an actual body this dress truly comes to life and it is magnificent. If you are a fan of these pieces from the thirties you know just how exceptional and rare it is. Excellent condition.
Unlined and closes with a series of snaps at the side. One side on the neckline snaps to close. I think If you wanted you could leave those snaps open and wear this very low on the shoulder. Hand finished throughout. I see one repair near the hem that only shows from the inside. For a garment 100 years old it is in amazing condition. The bias cut should allow it to fit a range of sizes

SIZE GUIDE
Please review all measurements carefully. More often than not, vintage garments do not fit any size category exactly. If in doubt, measure a garment of your own that fits and is a similar cut and compare it's measurements to the listed measurements below.
