Oscar was known for his beautiful and feminine designs and this dress really showcases that. With our modern day obsession with all things eighties and nineties this play on proportions and fabrics still feels extremely of this moment fashion wise. Oscar had an amazing sense of aesthetics and his genius was in making women look and feel beautiful. I love that we found an amazing backstage shot of it from the runway show that let us date it. It is very hard to date his earlier work and its also nice to be able to see it on. It is just an absolutely gorgeous example of his work from this time period. 

Three different fabrics were combined to make of this dress and each one becomes a an element of the design. The sleeves are a light weight silk taffeta and that is how they hold their fullness without being heavy. The bodice is done in a black lace for a pretty touch. The skirt is a black silk that has a very fine thin ribbing that runs through it for added texture. The neckline is scooped low and it is set wide across at the front so that it sits on the outer edge of your shoulders. At the back it is scooped so you get an expanse of bare skin. The sleeves are spectacular. They have built in panels of tulle to help hold their shape. They are cut to be every full so that they billow out to just above the elbow. They have elastic running through the edges nearest to the shoulders and this allows you to be able to wear them up and on the shoulder like I have shot them here or you could let them fall off the shoulder to get an even more bare feel. It skims over the bodice to the waist and I love the little lace peplum that sits just under the waist seam. The skirt falls from under that on a beautiful curve to the floor. There is a built-in underskirt made out of a black silk organza that has a wide ruffled bottom. This helps to hold the shape of the outer skirt. The fulness of the skirt moves beautifully when you move. Excellent condition

I had a dress similar to this in the past and I think I love it even more this time around. It is a beautiful example of the genius of Mr. de la Renta's work and his attention to detail. It has a beautiful elegance to it and is quite striking. This sense of refinement is a constant in Oscar's work and I particularly love these earlier examples of that aesthetic. You can see how many of the elements you see in pieces like this were carried forward through his entire body of work.

The dress is made from a sheer brown silk chiffon with a built in under-dress done in a lightweight brown silk chiffon. This gives the dress a touch of sheerness while keeping it wearable. It also allows the design that runs over the top layer of chiffon to have more of an impact because of that transparency on the top layer. The pattern on the outer fabric is made from bits of silk velvet that have been fused to the chiffon. The pattern this creates is scattered over the entire dress. The velvet buts themselves are quite fascinating. Depending on how the pile of the velvet is sitting, it looks to be either a deep charcoal grey or more taupe grey colour. Stitched in and around the velvet parts is a deep reddish copper metallic thread that gives the entire dress its subtle glint. The sleeves are incredible. They are unlined and they are incredibly full so that they pouf out above the cuffs. The bodice is cut to skim over you and then is brought in so that it blouses up and over the seam at the waist. The waist has elastic running through it so it is incredibly easy to wear. The skirt falls to the floor from there. The shape is fairly long and slim with just a touch of widening out at the hem for a lean silhouette. At the back there is an open keyhole from the hook at the back of the neck to the hooks that run up from the waist to cover the inner lining. I love this little unexpected and subtle flash of skin. It is a beautiful example of his work during this time period. Excellent condition.

I love when I find these earlier examples of Oscar de la Renta's work. He would heave been more personally involved in them and they really showcase the designer he was to become. The label on this dress tells us that it's probably late 60s maybe the first couple years of the 1970s and it seems similar to some of the pieces I've seen from the 1970 season. The dress beautifully showcases the the genius of his work and attention to detail. This is a favourite from him that I've had in the shop

The dress is gorgeous and is made from a beautiful black silk taffeta that holds the shape and volume that this dress has perfectly. The fabric choice also keeps the dress fairly light in weight while giving the dress some structure and shape. The front bodice is stunning. Two shaped triangles cover the front of the bodice, and there is a deep V for the neckline. The triangles extend all the way to the top of the neck and they are finished with a ruffle in the same fabric. This makes that V be a little less apparent and is a pretty detailing as it goes up and around your neck. Ties extend from just behind the peak of each triangle to tie behind the neck. It wraps around the waist and scoops low there. This leaves your entire back open and bare above that. I love this unexpected bare skin moment that is in stark contrast to the coverage at the front. The waist nips in and we have added a wide grosgrain ribbon to add a little more shape. The skirt deserves it own moment. It is made out of the same silk taffeta as the bodice. It explodes out from the waist to become incredibly full by the time it reaches the hem. Tiers of silk allow this expansion and there are five tiers in total. Each tier is finished with that same ruffled detail that you see around the halter neck and this really makes the dress special. Inside there is a silk lining and then another netted lining sits between the outer skirt and that inner layer. This helps to hold the volume that you see and it is spectacular. The photos on the dress form do not come close to doing it justice. This is a dress that needs an actual body in it and then it really comes to life. When you walk the taffeta rustles and the skirt swoops around to create this stunning billowing effect. Then when you turn to leave you have that flash of bare skin at the back. It is utterly amazing. Excellent condition

This Oscar de la Renta dress is gorgeous. The Fall 2011 Oscar de la Renta Bridal collection was amazing and this was one of the star looks of the show. His wedding pieces range from about $10000-$20,000 USD with the more elaborate ones like this tending to be in the upper range of that. Oscar launched his first bridal collection in October of 2002 and his wedding pieces have been worn by some of the most famous women in the world. He once said 'In the same manner that she fell in love with that man, I hope she's going to fall in love with that dress.' Countless brides have done just that. This gown is absolutely beautiful and if you are a bride looking for that very full princess feel then this is the ultimate dress for that. It literally takes your breathe away when you see and hold it in person.

The skirt of the dress is magnificent. It is made from many yards of multiple layers of a white tulle silk netting. The strapless bodice above that is a slightly more ivory colour and it is stunning. It is completely covered with tiers of lace and little scalloped silk chiffon rows. I took close ups of the work done there for you to see. The edges of the lace are embroidered and there are tiny curvy rows of ivory iridescent sequins mixed in. If that wasn't enough there are also little rhinestones set in rows over the bodice. The top curves in a pretty sweetheart neckline and it has a full built in hidden corset inside the bodice so you don't have to worry about additional underpinnings. The bust is strapless and fitted across the bodice. It is cut to follow your curves and there are built in hidden cups inside to lift the breasts. It tightly hugs the bodice and then nips in at the waist. The waist is detailed with elaborate appliquéd 'belt' that is made from various faux pearls, silver tube beads and glass cut rhinestones in different shapes. For the runway presentation it was shown with a simple sash and I believe that this was a custom add on. The skirt is extremely full and that beautiful volume would float all around you. There are 12 layers of tulle in the skirt and many of the inner ones have a double hem finish at the bottom. Under all of that there is a silk taffeta inner skirt in a deeper ivory. If you look closely you can see that under the top two layers of tulle the skirt has been gathered up all around in little drapes. This gives it this depth in fullness that is incredible. It's a subtle detail that you can see through those top layers of skirts that is just absolutely genius. I did not add any additional crinolines to the dress for these photos. It has enough built in layers in the  skirt already that it falls on its own perfectly. Every angle that you look at this dress from gives you drama and gorgeousness. It is cut longer at the back so that it flows out behind you when you walk. If you wanted even more of a real princes gown feel I think you could have the inner layers starched and you would get even more volume. I love the bareness of the shoulders the strapless silhouette gives you. It is the perfect balance to that full on princess skirt. It is a very stunning gown and is a beautiful example of Oscar's work. Excellent condition with a minor note below

The bodice is boned with padded inner cups for structure and support. The dress closes at the back with a hidden set zipper. Multiple layers of built in tulle and skirting as described above. The hem of the inner skirt is grubby and some of the very inner layers of tulle have some marks at their hems and i see the very occasional small tear near the hem. You see none of these once on. It otherwise looks to have been worn very little if at all. Tagged an ODLR 8 but seems to be cut small

Well sourcing the collection for this dress we found an example in 1988 that felt close but I think it is most likely from the Fall of 1991. He showed several of these dresses with jackets over them at the end of that show and this feels more similar to those. You can also see the similarity in the one that we had that was worn by that Olivia Culpo. This feels like it's younger sassier sister. We have included reference photos from both collections here and either way, it is an absolutely fabulous little black dress. It is incredible and very sexy.

The dress is strapless with a pretty bodice that curves up at the front and down slightly at the back. It is boned and shaped to curve around the bust at the front and then hug the body to the waist. The exterior is made of a black silk and it has a little lace ribbon all around the upper edge for a little romantic touch. The skirt is made from two layers of a fine black netting that has a very smooth to the touch feel. The layers give you touch of transparency and you can see this in the 1991 show that this was deliberate. He meant it to be worn over an undergarment and tights that gives you some coverage and just have the transparency that shows your entire leg. If that does not work for you, you could easily add something underneath to lessen the transparency that the skirt has. It zips to close at the back and I love how you can see that the zipper has been hand set. The inner lining is also handset and it is just a beautiful example of how well these little dresses are made from Chanel. Especially in these early years of the Karl era. Excellent condition.

Lined in a handset silk through the bodice and closes with a back, hand set zipper. There are little loops inside the dress that suggests that it had a inner elastic stay through the bodice at one time but that is now gone. I have left them because it would be very easy to add one in if you feel that would make it more secure on you. There is a stay in place around the waist that hooks to close. Tagged a vintage Chanel 38.

This incredible dress is not only a dress that we found runway documentation for, but its twin on the runway was worn by none other than the great Linda Evangelista. There is even a photo of her standing just behind Oscar on the runway that we especially love. This was one of the stand-out pieces from that collection and I am very pleased to have this for you in the shop today. It is gorgeous.

This is a stunning dress. I love how he combined two distinct fabrics to make it. The bodice and matching shawl feel to me to be a cashmere and it is as soft as soft can be. The skirt is made from a rich deep jewel toned silk. The bodice is strapless and is cut to be fitted to the body and hug you right down to the waist. I love the way the fabric has been hand draped into tiny soft pleats that curve all the way around you and cross over itself at the front. This helps to add shape and interest to the bodice and shows the remarkable amount of workmanship that went into dresses from this time period. Under the waist the skirt cascades down and out to the floor. There are yards and yards of silk that have gone into the construction of that skirt. It is gathered in and around the waist in a series of tiny soft gathers and then these open out to create that billowing skirt that you see. The outer skirt is lined in a black silk organza and then inside there is a built-in silk taffeta underskirt. The underskirt is finished with a wide band of the same coloured silk as the exterior layer so when you move that is still the only colour that you see. There is a band of stiffened netting hidden inside the hem of the underskirt to help hold the shape. Another hidden band of netting wraps around the inner hip area to help hold the.volume there as well. The way that it has been cut, combined with the inner support that it has, creates this stunning billowing effect when you move and walk. The dress comes with its original matching shawl that you can see Linda wear on the runway. It is meant to drape over your shoulders with phenomenal 12" fringed tassels gathering the fabric up at each end. It is that perfect mix of elegance, femininity, romance and fantasy that Oscar excelled at. Excellent condition with a minor note below.

The bodice is fully lined in a burgundy silk. There is built in boning and shaping through the bodice. There is a hooked waist stay inside and then the outer dress zips to close over that. Part of the wrapped cording is missing on one tassel and I see a couple of tiny repairs on the shawl. The dress looks to have been worn very little if at all.

This dress dates from the mid-later 1980s based on the styles and similarities to other dresses I have previously had in the shop from that period. It is definitely Karl's work and it is a gorgeous example of his ability to cut the perfect LBD. It is a very easy to wear dress and it is just a spectacular dress to own.

This is one of those dresses that in person you do bit of a gasp when you see it because it is the perfect little dress. The dress is made out of a black cotton that has just enough weight for it to hold the shape that he intended. There is a slight ribbed texture to the fabric. It is so simple in its cut but is so chic and elegant once it is on the body. It feels very much that perfect French original little black dress. Two wide straps curve over the shoulders to meet behind the neck and the front neckline is done in a V. At the back it scoops down for an expanse of bare skin to show. The front is shaped in a bit of a triangle feeling halter and there is a little two top set pocket on each breast. Each pocket has a gold Camellia flower button on it. The front crosses over itself and is held in place with another pretty gold flower button. The waist nips in and there is a pretty little bow at the centre with the final gold button. The skirt is set into the waist with a series of perfect little pleats that open up to for a fuller skirt. The skirt falls to the knee depending on your height. Under the bow at the front the fabric overlaps over itself a bit and this helps it to achieve the volume you see. At the back there is an inverted pleat down the centre that also helps achieve the volume of the skirt. A shallow little pocket sits on each hip for the perfect finish of this gorgeous little dress. Once on this fits and hugs your curves in the best possible way. It is a beauty. Excellent condition

Bill Blass launched his label in 1970 when he bought out the Maurice Rentner label and then re-launched it under his own name. Blass was arguably one of the most famous of  the American designers. His forte was the ability to mix simple styles with luxurious materials and his evening wear in particular seemed to have a way of flattering the wearer. He knew how to walk that line perfectly. This is a very chic and sexy example of his work from this time period and it is even better in person. 

The dress is made out of a feather light silk chiffon that is bias cut and backed in a second layer of silk that has the same pretty print over its surface. This layering of the print creates a really pretty depth and added dimension to the dress. Both layers are cut on the bias and the layers float over each other perfectly to drape over the body. It is incredible. The dress is as light as a feather and feels like heaven once on the body. The dress curves over the shoulders and the neckline plunges down between the breasts with a pretty ruffle following the neckline. The back has the same V and ruffle treatment. It cleverly closes at the base of the V and you could probably wear this either way around. It skims over the bust and then from there the dress falls in an extravagant swoosh to the floor with an easy cut over the waist and hips. The bias cut lets it drape over the body underneath but at the same time it feels insanely comfortable on because the fabric weighs ounces. I have added a taupe grosgrain ribbon at the waist to cinch it in more but also shot it without so you could see that as well. It works either way. The skirt widens out as it nears the floor and there are extra long draping panels that extend past the hemline for the perfect and prettiest finish. Excellent condition. 

Made from a layer of silk chiffon topping an inner silk layer as described above. It closes with a hidden set zipper. The ribbon at the waist is not original to the dress but will be included. The bias cut has some give and the comfortable range of measurements are listed below. The dress appears to have been worn very little if at all.

SixThis is an incredible and very rare set by Rifat Ozbek. The original Ozbek label was only produced from 1984 to 1991 and pieces are very hard to find, never mind finding a full three piece set like this. Versions of this set were seen on the runway and for US Vogue that season. It is incredible. 

The suit is three pieces; a cropped jacket, a skirt and a bra top. The jacket is a burgundy and cropped to above the natural waist. It has no closures and a neat collar. The shoulders have a tiny bit of shape but are cut to slope down to the sleeve. The sleeves are kept simple. The skirt is very high-waisted so that it comes up to meet the jacket. It curves out and over the hips and then flares out at the hem. The front of the skirt is cut several inches shorter than the back so that you get this gorgeous little kick when you walk. Yellow embroidery runs down either side of the hip on both the front and the back. The final piece is that phenomenal bra top. Its base is the same burgundy as the other two pieces and then the cups of the bra have been covered in a thick gold cording. Two tones of gold cording have been used. One is a more black based gold and the other is brighter. The darker cord covers the majority of each cup and then the brighter is set at the upper edge of each cup and in a row across them. The straps are a leopard print and then gold toned coins on a little chains are set all along the bottom of the bra. These gold coins became one of his signatures. It is just a phenomenal and rare piece of vintage. Excellent condition with a minor note below.

All three pieces are lined in a burgundy lining. The jacket has no closures and just slips on to wear. I see a small amount of very minor changing colour / grubbiness on the top of the shoulders. The skirt closes with a side zipper and the bra closes with a hook clasp at the back. It has under-wiring and slight padding on the cups. The jacket and bra are tagged an IT40, FR36, GB8, US6 and the skirt is tagged in IT42,FR38, GB10, US8.
