1980s Arnold Scaasi Couture Gown & Sable Jacket

Arnold Scaasi did exquisite work and as time passes I feel his designs are coming to be appreciated by a new audience. His work is for when you want to have all eyes on you. He worked under the great Charles James at the beginning of his career as a designer and you can see that influence in his later ball gowns. He cut and created his designs to extremely high standards and the workmanship is fabulous. This gown combines a brilliant deep royal blue with gold. The gold fabric is incredible. It is a quilted gold silk lame that has blue flowers embroidered directly onto it in slightly raised designs. As it nears the hem of the ball gown skirt the design also incorporates trailing vines. The entire edge of the skirt is finished by embroidery and with a rounded scalloped edge. The strapless bodice is a brilliant blue velvet. The jacket is lined in the finest of silk, dyed the same blue as the gowns bodice and each cuff ends in a wide sable cuff. The jacket is fitted with capped shoulders. It is equally as stunning with pr without the jacket and a true statement piece. Scaasi dressed actresses, socialites and first ladies and you can see why in this dramatic ballgown! Love that you can style the jacket separate and even with jeans! Excellent condition.

The gown in fully lined in a blue silk through the bodice and hand finished. It closes with a back, hand set painted metal zipper. The bodice is boned. The skirt is lined with an inner silk layer (the hip measurement is based on this layer ) and there is a layer of tule between this and the exterior. The jacket is fully lined in a fine, high end silk and is hand finished. It closes with fabric covered buttons as shown.
