1920s Feather & Sequin Cocoon Cape
What a showstopper! This is an amazing fully sequined cocoon cape from the twenties that is just breathtaking. Every inch of the exterior is covered in rows of sequins. The sequins at first glance appear to be a combination of a glossy jet black missed with glossed steel greys but the greys are actually tinged with a slight turquoise shade - this gives them remarkable shimmer and the sense of life with the slightest of movements of the wearer. The cut will adapt to pretty much any frame - it has no defined shoulder and just drapes on - the fabric on each side is cut to elongate and eventually end in an opening where you slip through your hands - this makes it easy to wear and ensures it stays on and again, fully takes advantage of the movement and shimmer of the sequins. The collar is wonderful - two layer - one glossy black and deep deep emerald tinted feathers (!) over which lies a full collar of silk tulle. Really a wonderful one of a kind piece that will be an instant bit of over the top old world luxury and drama. Wonderful condition.
Total length: 45" from mid back of neck to bottom hem
The garment is fully lined in black tissue silk and closes at the neck with two hook & eye. A ruffled chiffon edging circles the entire interior hems edge - I think this and the feathers were added at a later date but are well done and it looks fabulous so its left as obtained. There is a patch of missing sequins on the back shoulder that is mainly covered by the collar and there are some small parts of rows where the sequins are missing. Its priced accordingly and these do not attract. In fact it adds to its aura of decadence.
Note that antique and twenties pieces are final sale. They will be packed exceedingly well and we only sell pieces that will stand up to the stress of shipping, however, having pieces potentially shipped multiple times through multiple customs and countries is too hard on garments that are historically important and deserve to be treated with love and care. - payment two of the remaining balance will be billed two weeks from the date of the initial deposit.
- The final payment is due two weeks after the second payment and shipping will be billed on this invoice as well.
- items less then $500, or that are on sale, require a 50% deposit with the final payment due in two weeks from the date of deposit
