Victorian Black Cut Work Fine Wool Cape
This cape is just utterly fantastic! The exterior is a fine black wool that is cut with a series of triangular panels that run from neck to hem, widening as the near the hem. Within each of the panels the fabric has been elaborately cut in a swirling, glorious design and then the edges are finished. The thing that is quite amazing is that this is all one panel of fabric!! The work to plan and complete this is mind boggling! The interior is lined with black silk that is starting to go in some areas (see below). I would be tempted to remove it completely or have it relined in a second colored silk so you can really see that amazing design! A really special piece that is shockingly wearable despite the fact that it is well over 100 years old! Amazing!
Shoulders: no defined seam but they are approx 14-15" across inside.
Total length: 23.5" from mid back of neck to bottom hem
The cape is fully lined in a fine black silk. A repair has been made along the back neckline and there is some shattering near the hook and eye at the front. It is still sound and wearable as is and since I believe it is the original lining I chose to leave it as is and priced it accordingly. Hand set lining. It closes with a series of metal hook & eye down the front. It is a true deep black - some photos were lightened to show detail.
Modern Sizing Note: It is not the body on this piece but the shoulders - you do not want to be much past 15" flat across or it will not sit right
Note that antique and twenties pieces are final sale. They will be packed exceedingly well and we only sell pieces that will stand up to the stress of shipping, however, having pieces potentially shipped multiple times through multiple customs and countries is too hard on garments that are historically important and deserve to be treated with love and care. Please purchase accordingly.

SIZE GUIDE
Please review all measurements carefully. More often than not, vintage garments do not fit any size category exactly. If in doubt, measure a garment of your own that fits and is a similar cut and compare it's measurements to the listed measurements below.
