1920s Fully Reversible Printed Tissue Silk Japanese Tourist Kimono Jacket
I love finding these little kimonos and even though this one is not perfect it's too good not to have someone get a few more years of love out of it. This is an early one, most likely made in Japan for the tourist market. It is utterly stunningly and hauntingly beautiful. These were made to be soft and romantic and were stylized, pretty versions of the traditional kimono. It is hand dyed and hand screened, and the print that covers both side of it depicts a stunning floral design. It literally weighs ounces and has the extra benefit of being fully reversible - with one side being a soft, grey blue and the other black. It has its original ties to secure at the front and these just loop through on the silk loops of either side. These are fantastic to wear at home, as a light evening topper or even as a dress if you add a silk slip under it. Great overall condition with some notes below to review before buying
Unlined and fully reversible. This items is almost 100 years old and has been worn & loved. There is a hole along the hem on the black side where the silk thinned. The fabric is actually there but it is delicate so I left it as found. There is a second small nip out of the fabric on the back that is stable. On the blue side I see some light water marks on each sleeve that really don't detract and there is sun fading across one sleeve and the shoulders. These all add to the patina and in my opinion are not a detraction, but it is priced to reflect the current condition. It is still completely strong and wearable with care. All made by hand
