I Have a Question
This dress is from John Galliano's own label and I believe it is from within those last few years that he held the position of Creative Director there. Galliano has always been know for his amazing bias cut gowns and this gorgeous example is no exception. His work, especially the bias cut pieces like this, have a feeling of the decadence mixed with the high luxury of the twenties and thirties and they are beautifully cut. They marry the old Hollywood feel of those past eras with the minimalist spirit of the nineties and early aughts and the results are stunning.
This dress is gorgeous. It is made out of a bias cut ivory silk that has a pretty garden floral print that covers it. The print has a very delicate feel to it and gives it a little French flare. It is detailed with with tiers and ruffled flounces that are made from the same silk. It is completely cut on the bias and once on the body it skims over your curves and highlights your shape. It is extremely comfortable to wear because of this. The silk drapes over a nude colored interior that gives the ivory of the top layer a slight nude tone to it. The dress is suspended from teeny silk straps and the neckline at the front dips down. The body of the dress skims over the bust, waist and hips. Both curved and angled ruffles are set to wrap around the body. They detail the neckline and then curve across the body and follow the angled hem. At the hem the ruffles layer over each other to create a double row finish. The skirt is cut to expose one leg quite high up. The bottom skirt is very full and widens out with tiers of ruffles lace set all around it. This ruffled technique is one derived from the gowns of the twenties and thirties and this play a large part in the vintage feel the dress has. A little silk rose surrounded by a splash of faux fur details the the bodice just under one strap and the hip on the opposite side. It is stunning on. Excellent condition
Fully lined in a bias cut silky nude silk. It slips on to wear with no closures. It appears to have never been worn or worn very little. The bias cut will allow for some stretch and a bit of range on sizing. Tagged a FR36, US2

I Have a Question
I am always very pleased to be able to document any pieces coming into the shop and it is a thrill to show you the version of this suit shot for the November 2003 issue of Vogue magazine. Anna Wintour also owns this suit and wore the pieces together or mixed with other pieces several times over the course of the 2003-2004 season. This gives you a great idea of how versatile the suit is and how it can be mixed and matched with pieces from your own wardrobe.
The suit is constructed from an absolutely stunning mint green and white version of the Chanel signature boucle fabric. The color is just exceptional and it is easy to see why it is such a well documented piece. It is absolutely beautiful. I love the mix of the boucle and silk chiffon. On the jacket the chiffon is inset down the front edges with a soft silk tie at the neck. The edging is composed of three layers of the silk and the effect of these over top each other is very soft and romantic. The silk continues all the way around the hem and then peeks out from the cuffs of each sleeve. A little green Chanel buttons sits at the top of the neck and acts like a modified french cuff on each of those elaborate cuffs. The skirt is cut with a slight flare is it nears the hem and has more of the silk chiffon technique applied and inset at the front of the skirt. Here is is done in a soft closed pleat at the top so you get the perfect fit around the hips and then opens up to create the beautiful lines that you see. The entire suit is then lined in the highest quality camellia flower embossed white silk. This is classic Chanel right down to the chain stitched by hand into the hem of the jacket. It is exceptional. Excellent condition.
Both pieces are fully lined in a fine, white silk embossed with the Chanel camellia flower print. The interior hem of the jacket is finished with their signature metal chain. The skirt closes with a hidden set zipper. The jacket buttons with a single button at the neck. Hand finishes throughout and working buttonholes on each sleeve. The pockets are still hand stitched shut. Appears worn very little if at all. The color and texture are even better in person. Both pieces are tagged a Chanel 42
The Chanel boucle is created with their proprietary method of weaving that they themselves describe as "by weaving the warp and weft, using a variety of different kinds of threads which creates a unique and somewhat irregular appearance. The warp – vertically strung – is the background of the fabric, the base that will support the assembly of materials. There can be up to 12 different threads used for a single warp. The weft – woven horizontally – gives the fabric its unique character and can have an unlimited number of threads. Tight, perforated, textured, thick, with a relief, plaited, random, twill… the potential number of effects is endless". This technique gives you that classic Chanel look.

This is a fantastic little dress and one of the most recognizable prints from Prada. It is constructed from a gorgeous custom screened silk crepe that is one level up from chiffon as far its weight but has an opaqueness that a chiffon would not have. It does have the lovely drape of a light silk though! The bodice is crossed and scooped low and each shoulder has a little fabric detail at the top. I love how the skirt cascades from the waist and has a panel of fabric that is an extension of the bodice above. This makes it very flattering and gives the wearer a beautiful long, lean line. It is all cut on the bias so immediately settles into place and highlights a girl's curves perfectly! So sexy! It's labeled, gorgeous and very well made. A dress fit for a modern day pin-up girl! Excellent condition

Jean Paul Gaultier used the butterfly print in his Spring 2014 Couture presentation and also did a couple of versions of the print into production for his Soleil collection that year. This is the long version sold in the shops that year and it is a simple and easy to wear dress that has lots of impact with that amazing print. The dress is made out of a easy to care for and wear stretch jersey. It simply slips on and then molds to your body from head to toe with the fabric conforming to your curves. It is super comfortable to wear and is wash and wear so a piece you can just throw in your suitcase and wear when you arrive anywhere. Long sleeves and a V neck finish the look. I love the explosion of print that covers ever square inch and the way the pattern is laid out to be very flattering to the bod once it is on. It's a great dress. Excellent condition

The Zandra Rhodes Renaissance, or Gold Collection, of 1981 was inspired by "the combination of the royal wedding, historic dress from the Elizabethan period, and panniers from the Victoria and Albert Museum's collection of historic costume..... Vogue sent a memo around to fashion designers saying that there was going to be a royal wedding. Due to press speculation, Zandra Rhodes assumed this would be the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. Zandra Rhodes later went on to design silk chiffon dresses for Princess Diana in the mid-1980s, such as this evening dress, describing her as "like a fairytale princess."
Here we see many of the same details used in the center piece of that year's collection (which is pictured below for your reference) - the fabric "cabbages" used to highlight the shoulder and the rosettes that sit at the base of each. Our gown is done in a copper lame combined with net, beads and sequins. The skirt has two knife pleats layers - an inner copper lurex layer topped by a hand painted silk net layer. The effect of the net over the Lurex is remarkable and the pleating technique gives it fullness while allowing it to lay in the exact line she intended when standing still. The waist has a lame rosette detailing and is slightly dropped - suggestive of the pannier that she referenced throughout this collection. The bodice is tremendously beautiful with a highly embellished hand beaded and sequined finish. Under that amazing sweeping shoulder detail lie black silk net puffed sleeves trimmed with beads. A stunning example from one of her most famous collections.
The lurex skirt layer acts as its own lining and the main bodice is backed in a black satin. It closes with a back set zipper and a button at the back of the neck above a small keyhole. There is a slight pull to the front net and there have been repairs to the net along the arm seams but the shoulder detail covers it all so it is mentioned for accuracy only. It was slightly large on our mannequin so will sit better through the torso on the proper sized girl

Earlier McQueen pieces are getting exceedingly rare as girls are now hoarding them so I love having some of the really spectacular pieces to show you! This is definitely a showstopper. A silk chiffon fitted & corseted dress in leopard is a wonderful example of a modern day designer taking couture techniques from the past and giving it his own genius spin. Drop dead sexy silk chiffon in the perfect leopard print is sewn in flat horizontal pleats over an interior corseted base. Great care has been taken to ensure that all those pleats line up perfectly at the back hidden zipper. The cups are edged in chiffon and the straps are meant to sit low and slightly off the shoulder - you can also tuck them to wear it strapless. It really is meant to mold to a real body so my mannequin is not even coming close to doing this piece full justice. It is in immaculate, unworn condition and you will die when you see the seaming detail on the interior of this piece! The original retail on this piece was over $5,000! Mint condition.

Fine art and high fashion meet in this beautiful piece from the last collection designed under the direction of Alexander McQueen himself. The bag pays homage to the religious paintings of Hieronymus Bosch and is made from a custom screened jacquard with brown croc-print leather. Both sides are screened with two top handles and a zip fastening along top. Gold hardware and a logo stamped padlock sits on the front, a† logo stamped leather tag loops around the handle. Inside there is a a zipped internal pocket and the bag is fully lined in red. This is an important, rare and iconic piece that is impossible to find! Same print as the presentation piece of Alexander's final collection before his death. Excellent, never carried, condition

My client purchased the skirt of this set in the Fall of 2003 and the jacket a season later. She was thrilled when she obtained the jacket as the texture is a good, solid match to the skirt and the proportion mimic the look of the intention of the Fall 2003 runway that the skirt was produced from. The skirt is very high waisted - it is formed to hug the torso to just under the bust in a tight sheath and then cascades out in a stylized version of its earlier fifties contemporaries. It actually has light boning through the sides and an inner skirt of silks and net that turn into four full layers under the top silk as it nears the hem. The construction is on par with couture and I love the tightly pleated hem detailing that is finished with a dyed fir trim! The jacket is as equally amazing. It is cut almost like a female tuxedo with a silk satin lapel and low hidden buttons. The inside collar is doubled with the inner facing striped in silk and the second under-collar the Asian feel silk brocade shown. It has its original, reversible belt that zips into place. Both pieces were meticulously sgored and cared for and are like new and in Museum quality! A rare and wonderful set with both pieces dating pre-death.
(note that I will consider selling separately - you may contact me to discuss further but would prefer to† have it go as a set)

Leona Lewis looked beautiful when she wore the twin of this dress to the 2010 Elle Style awards and my client remembers seeing Iman in it on the cover of a magazine but I have been unable to hunt that photo down. The dress is classic McQueen and is from the pre-fall collection of 2009. These looks led to the F/W 2009 collection - "The Horn of Plenty", subtitled "Everything but the Kitchen Sink". The Alexander McQueen website said of that collection:
"It is the play between a profound respect for and the subversion of the haute couture tradition.....The clothes themselves draw on haute couture signatures....All in all, this is power-dressing at its most elaborate and extreme."
You can see in this piece how he was working towards that. The cut through the body is perfectly fitted and shaped, every seam and stitch properly placed to highlight a woman's body without being crass. And then the keyhole at the neck gives it a touch of sexuality and the sleeves are a nod to the excess and extreme silhouette of couture. It is classic McQueen and profoundly beautiful, strict, high end and subtle all at the same time. The fabric is a slightly textured, fine fleece wool. The seam work is all done on the curve and the dress is extraordinarily well made. The original retail was well over $3000 and this piece will only increase further in value and sentiment being that it is a piece that pre-dates McQueen's untimely death. Excellent condition!

I Have a Question
I am very excited to bring you our latest mini capsule collection. This is one of nine dresses from a single owner collection. Her collection was lovingly sourced over decades and she has decided that it is time let them back out into the world for others to enjoy. For this capsule we have moved forward to the 1940s and 1950s. Really good examples from this era are becoming increasingly hard to find and these are all gorgeous little examples of that time period. This is just a tiny sampling of her overall collection and I hope to have more of these capsules for you in the future.
Fred Perlberg is an interesting designer. He started his label in 1920 at the grand old age of 19 and continued as the designer until 1968 when he retired. The Perlberg company dresses were well made and done in small production runs so that they could focus on good quality pieces. This is an amazing and early example.
I love this dress. It is strapless and has such incredible volume and movement once it is on the body. The bust is inset with an off white organza that is intricately pleated and is set shelf bust style and on a curve to emphasize the breasts. The contrasting colour of that detail to the rest of the dress also brings added attention to the bust which was the intention. The bodice is fitted and then the waist nips in. Below that the skirt flares out to be tremendously full. I have added a light crinoline underneath to show you how full it is but even without it you get the sense of fullness because of the way it is shaped and seamed. The fabric is extremely lightweight and it is very unique. The base is a light blue toned grey coloured cotton that has been completely hand-painted with a silver floral design. It is hard to convey in words the unusual texture that this gives the fabric and when you feel it for yourself you will agree that it is astonishingly good. I love this dress. Excellent condition.
The bodice is lined in a cream silky rayon and the skirt is unlined. It closes with a back metal zipper and the bust is lightly boned. It appears to have been worn very little

A truly wonderful 1950s skirt that is the most amazing striped design. It looks like a piece straight off the runways and yet dates from the mid to late 1950s. Made entirely of wool that is woven to form the striping that you see. I love how they contrast top to bottom! The front pockets are built along the top line of horizontal striping and are set to slightly† extend out from the top line so you know that they are there! Just a star of a piece! A rare vintage pair Chanel ancient 'coin' ear clips. Authentic gilt metal items retain original clip backs.
Item #DS051

The fabric used for the exterior of this stunning, one of a kind evening clutch was taken from an antique high end silk kimono. The kimono was a stunning example of hand embroidery work and I had it in my personal archives for years. The central medallion of flowers that adorned the back panel of the robe was used for one side of the bag. The other side of the clutch is taken from the hand dyed silk panel that made up the inside hem of the original piece. Onto that side, beautiful hand made silk ribbon was removed from the kimono's interior edge and re-sewn by Marketa, by hand onto the bag. Inside the hand-embroidered banding that circled each cuff has been transformed into stunning pockets.
There was only enough salvageable fabric from the original antique garment to make this one, single clutch. It is truly a one of a kind and a very special piece! Each bag is made entirely by hand through the collaborative efforts of Shrimpton & Marketa

Extraordinary runway eighties Kenzo smock dress is just magnificent. I have just found a photo of this piece as presented in the Autumn/Winter 1984-1985 on page 242 of the book Fashion the Twentieth Century by Francois Baudot.† I will add a picture when I can!
It captures all that is great about the brand!† This piece would have been from when Kenzo Tadaka himself headed the brand and you can see the influence of his early study of art in the beautiful floral print. He is known for this use of color and print so this dress is very desirable and collectible. Made of fine fine wool it has a stunning red color base with a virtual garden of flowers strewn across its surface. Its is cut full and plays on volume - there is a bit of break where the skirt meets the bodice and the op is collared and yoked beautifully. I love the wide sleeves - they narrow though a vertical seam and then are cuffed to create a billowing effect. The Back drapes perfectly. You can of course wear this with a belt but I love it as it was meant to be worn - loose and with in your face volume!† Mint condition.

I Have a Question
I am so excited to bring you the second part of our 1930s capsule. This is one of a dozen dresses from a single owner collection of beautiful 1930s dresses. Her collection was lovingly sourced over decades and she has decided that it is time let them back out into the world for others to enjoy. Outstanding designs from this era are increasingly hard to find. Her collection represents some of the best of the era that I have seen in a very long time. Most are in excellent condition and the few included in the capsule that do have some flaws are such outstanding designs that I feel there is still room for someone to love them and wear them as they are, or perhaps to put in the additional work to repair them. This is just a tiny sampling of her overall collection and I hope to have more of these capsules for you in the future.
This is a stunning dress made of a heavy rich feeling silk satin that is completely cut on the bias. The fabric alone is something you will never see in today's modern fabric production. It is not so heavy that it feels uncomfortable but it does have a good weight that feels beautiful on the body. If you are a collector of pieces from this time period you know what I'm talking about. The dress slips over the head and drapes into place with little snaps on one side. The silk immediately will mold to your curves as it drapes and skims down the body from bust to hips. As it nears the hem it flares out beautifully. I love the vivid floral print that runs over the entire dress. The colours are amazingly bright still and it feels joyful just to look at. This one also comes with a light and easy jacket that is made of the same silk as the dress. It has pretty capped sleeves and a curved scalloped finish that runs all the way around its edges. The front dips into a V and the back has a much deeper V. The dress is so well made that I think you could wear it either way around depending on how brave you want to be. I photoed it with the deeper V to the front and to the back. I also added a pretty black ribbon around the waist to show how you can add some shape. It is not original to the dress but will be included. The feel of the dress changes dramatically whether you wear it on its own with just the jacket, with a belt, or with all three pieces combined and of course with the deeper V to the back or front. I love that about it because it just gives you more options on how you're able to wear it. This one is an absolute beauty. Excellent overall condition with a small note below.
Unlined and slips on to wear with snaps on one side. The jacket has no closures. Cut on the bias. All the inner seams are finished by hand. I see a small run of colour on one flower on the bodice. It's just like part of the pattern but I've included a photo of it here for you to see. Please see the last four photos here. The ribbon belt is not original but will be included. For a garment almost 100 years old it is in amazing condition. The bias should allow it to fit a range of sizes.

This is an exceptional example of the pretty sundresses that were being made in the late 1940s and into the 1950s. It has a touch of a Hawaiian dress influence and it is just the prettiest dress I have seen like this in a while. Really great examples of dresses from the forties are almost impossible to find anymore and this one is amazing. The fabric is very light and it feels almost weightless once on. The fabric is a deep blue - black silk crepe that has a pretty white flower print that runs over its surface. The print is set so that it wraps and curves around you and this only adds to the curves the dress creates. The dress is suspended from two wide straps made of the same silk and the bodice is cut to be fitted to your curves. The waist nips in and then the skirt curves over and hugs the hips and falls in a slim pencil cut to come out slightly at the hem. It has no vent which is how these dresses got their name... the bottom hem makes you have to take smaller steps hence the 'wiggle' that is created when you walk. Then, to up the glam, there are hand cut out flowers that are attached to the bodice and sprinkled around the waist and over the hip. These have been covered with hand applied sequins to catch the light. It is fantastic. Excellent condition with a small note below.
The dress is fully lined in a black silk and closes with a side metal zipper. The appliques are hand applied and sequinned. Each applique has a netted backing. There is a touch of sun fading to the top of one strap. Please see the photo after the label shot.

I Have a Question
I have added a reference photo from the 1977 fall runway that has the same feel with the silk chiffon and oversized print. The Rive gauche collection often pulled elements from the couture collection the season before so it would make perfect sense that this was a version from the next collection in the Spring of 1978.
This is a very romantic feeling and special dress from Yves Saint Laurent that is incredibly beautiful. It really illustrates his genius in working with fine silks and chiffon. It is made from a custom screened large floral print silk chiffon and everything about it is spectacular. The bodice has short wide cut sleeves that have a cuffed detailing to them. The neckline is kept simple and plunges down quite deep to the waist where it is caught up with a row of silk covered buttons. The waist is cinched in with a banding of the same fabric and there is a matching tie belt that cinches in the waist more. The skirt flows to the ground in a beautiful cascade of silk and it is cut loose and easy so it very easy to wear. The dress is unlined so it has a touch of transparency to it that contrasts with the very innocent and romantic floral print. The fabric is a very fine silk chiffon and the print mixes that beautiful coral and white wonderfully. It has a very romantic and pretty and yet is sophisticated and refined at the same time - classic YSL genius! I love it. Excellent condition with a couple of minor notes below.
Unlined and buttons at the front. Has its matching silk tie belt. Tagged a 36. There are a couple of very minor marks on the silk, a couple of teeny pinholes near the shoulder and the buttons show minor stress at their edge. Please review the photos following the label shot. Note this is shown on a size 2 dress form and will fit a narrow rib/small bust size 4 as well.
