Rare Spring 1993 Versace by Gianni Versace Runway & Lookbook 'Miami Collection' Floral Print Silk Vest
I Have a Question
- The twin of this piece was shown on the Spring 1993 Versace runway.
- It was made under the creative direction of Gianni Versace
- Besides being prominently featured on the runway, it was featured in editorials for the Versace lookbook.
- This is an exceedingly rare piece from one of the best known eras of his career.
-
This collection was an homage to South Beach, a place that Gianni absolutely loved. In 1991 he bought Casa Casuarina, a mansion on Ocean Drive. Two years and $30 million later it was a lavish palazzo, but before that was completed, he created this Spring 1993 show as a love letter to South Beach. Little Havana was referenced in the amazing floral printed silks that we see on this piece.
- The vest is made out of a printed silk with a solid black used for the collar and lining. Black silk is also used for the properly finished button holes and the silk covered buttons at the front.
- The rest of the vest has a brilliant oversized floral print running over it that is spectacular.
- I love how the back panel of the vest is a different floral panel pattern for contrast.
- The shawl collar curves down low to the waist and the vest closes with a double set of silk covered buttons across the front. Long floral covered tails fall around the side of the hip and down the front. These will end around or past the knee depending on your height.
- At the back, seams curve inward to add shape through the waist and there is a fabric half belt that you use to cinch in and add more shape.
- The belt buckle and added embellishment on the belt are amazing. They are made out of a gold toned metal with the tops of each piece finished in a red hand poured enamel. There are two curving pieces, one that secures the belt once buckled, and the other to finish the end of the belt strap. Three more straight pieces sit on either side of that for added decoration. It is a very decadent and beautiful extra touch of detail.
- This is an iconic and highly collectible piece of Versace history.
- The vest is fully lined in a black silk and closes with the two front buttons that have properly finished button holes. The black silk portion of the vest has a slight soft feel to its finish that appears intentional. It does have a fabric and size tag but it is faded and you can no longer read what size it is.
- The size tag has faded so please go buy the measurements listed below
- Excellent condition
Bust: 16-18" flat across from side seam to side seam
Waist: 14.5" flat across from side seam to side seam
Hips: approx 19" flat across from side seam to side seam but because the tails open at the front, there is some wiggle room and it should fit a little larger. The tails would just be spread open more at the front.
Total length: 44" from neck to longest point of the front hem, 20" from neck to the back hem
Modern Sizing Equivalent: SML-MED

Phenomenal Spring 2021 Versace by Donatella Versace Runway Look 77 Embellished Starfish Dress
I Have a Question
- The twin of this dress walked the Spring 2021 Versace show for Look 77.
- It was made under the creative direction of Donatella Versace.
- This dress was immediately waitlisted and sold out worldwide. They were released on a very limited basis and very few were made.
- The show is live streamed and close to the public because of the worldwide lockdowns at the time. The stage was the "imagined ruins of Atlantis" with projected water streaming down the walls. It was a tribute to Gianni's 'tresor de la mer' collection for Spring 1992. She was quoted by Vogue as saying "I wanted to do something disruptive to break the rules because I think that what worked a few months ago does not make any sense today. Creatively that meant finding a way to bring the DNA of Versace to a new reality into people who have undergone a deep change". The dress was one of the closing looks of the show and was worn to perfection by Irina on the runway.
- It was a dress that was heavily photographed that season. Gigi was photoed in it for US Vogue, Sonam for Vogue India and Emily Ratajkowski was also photoed in its twin.
- The dress is made out of a beautiful pale turquoise blue silk that is of a very high quality. This was then heavily in embellished with large prong set glass crystals in various sizes, colours and shapes on an embroidered backdrop.
- The level of hand applied crystal embellishment alone on the dress is something rarely seen in modern ready-to-wear.
- Heavily embellished straps curve up and over the shoulders. These attach into the front bodice that is also heavily embellished with a scoop cut out in the centre. It almost feels like what you would see in a 1950s burlesque piece and it is quite fabulous. It is shaped and cupped in the inner structured corset to add support and hold everything in place.
- At the back it is scooped quite low with another band of heavy embellishment coming up and across the back to hold it in place. That band of embellishment actually becomes one of the 'arms' of an oversized starfish that wraps around one hip.
- The dress curves in for the waist and back out over the hips. This particular dress is a larger size so does not fit my dress form as form fitting as it will on an actual body in the correct size. Once on the correct size person it will fit more like the reference photos.
- A high slit runs up one side of the skirt for a flash of leg to show as you walk and move.
- More starfish are scattered over the skirt and the applique work to create the pattern that sits over the dress is incredible. All of the embellishments on the dress are done in such a heavy and dense manner that they sit up and off of the dress. It is just spectacular.
- It is rare to see such stunning work on a modern piece and it is an absolutely exceptional dress and rare collectible.
- And last I love the gold metal Versace discs that are set in as a part of the straps. At the fronts they have little hand made enamel starfish and I have taken a close-up of how they are embossed with the Versace name on their backs.
- Not only is this a rare runway piece but it is new with tags and was never worn.
- The dress is fully lined in a blue silk and has a full built in cupped, wired and boned inner corset. The inner corset closes with a series of hook and eye. The dress closes over that with a hidden set side zipper. I see perhaps slightest touch of grubbiness at the very edge of the hem and there is the very occasional tiny pull in the silk. These are very minor, but mentioned for accuracy and almost certainly occurred in storage or while in the shop from normal handling. The original tags are attached along with a packet of extra crystals and the dress was never worn.
- The dress is tagged a modern Versace 48

Fantastic 1990s Gianni Versace Metallic Silver Stretch Jersey Dress w Front Plunge & Long Tie
I Have a Question
- The dress dates to the late 1990s-early 2000s time period of the Versace label.
- It was made under the creative direction of Gianni Versace.
- The dress is made out of of a fabulous metallic silver stretch lame that makes it incredibly easy to wear and fit.
- On the bodice wide panels curve up and over the shoulders. The shoulders are cut wide and sloped so that they sit slightly off the shoulder. There is a bit of padding underneath to hold the shape correctly on your shoulder.
- The front plunges all the way down to the waist. I love how the way the bodice is constructed. It looks like it has all been flung over your shoulders and ties into place at the waist. It looks effortless but this is actually all achieved by the way it is seamed and set.
- Where it meets at the front there is attached tie that loops over itself to create the suggestion of a knot and then that falls all the way down the front.
- The skirt curves out over the hips and the entire upper portion of the skirt at the front has been gathered into the centre seam. From the hem up to the base of all of the gathers is a high slit that allows a flash of leg when you walk or move.
- The silver catches the light from every angle to give it a liquid affect over the body and the stretch of the fabric makes it very comfortable, easy to wear and fit.
- The dress is unlined and slips on with an elastic waist. There is light padding in each shoulder. The stretch should allow it to fit ranger sizes. It appears to have been worn very little if at all.

Chic 2000s Gianni Versace Bronze Gathered Silk Bodice Dress w an Elaborately Beaded Cut Out Front & Sweepimng Back
I Have a Question
- This is a very glamorous Versace dress that dates to the early 2000s.
- The dress is made out of a deep bronze coloured silk that is flattering on almost all skin tones.
- It is a dress that is insanely sexy and bare feeling yet you are still very covered. it has a bit of a nod to the Loris Azzaro rung dresses and you have to wonder if that was its inspiration.
- The silk is just heavy enough to give the dress an amazing drape so that it falls perfectly over the body.
- From the top of the hips to the top of the bodice the silk has been gathered into soft little horizontal folds. These are all gathered into the beaded bands that curves vertically down the front to form three cut outs. The bands extend out to form the straps that curve around the neck and hook into place.
- The waist is shaped to come in slightly and the silk curves back outward over the top of the hips.
- Below that the skirt falls to the floor in a cascade of copper coloured silk. It.skims over the hips and then the lower skirt flares out all the way around you. This gives a tremendous movement when you move.
- I love that the back is cut longer than the front for a beautiful sweep of fabric behind you.
- The dress is fully lined in a matching silk and closes with a hidden set zipper. The neck hooks into place at the back of the neck.

I Have a Question
- This set is from Spring 2002 Versace collection.
- It was made under the creative direction of Donatella Versace.
- On the runway this print was shown throughout the first part of the show and the jacket and pant that make up the set were shown separately. I love that this gives you some styling ideas when you don't want to wear them together as the full set.
- This two piece set combines a beautifully cut jacket with pants that are beaded from the knee down. I always love a suit because of the ability this gives you to mix and match the pieces with things you already own.
- The incredible floral print give the suit this incredible rock 'n' roll feel. The jacket is tailored with a sleek cut that follows the curves of the body.
- It has no collar and the sleeves are long with a notch opening up each wrist. A series of tightly spaced, hidden set, hook and eye close the jacket at the front.
- It comes in at the waist a touch for shape and is meant to follow the curves of the body, but without being too tight.
- The floral print that covers the jacket is spectacular to see. The fabric of the jacket is an almost canvas feeling cotton mix with a slight texture that gives the perfect backdrop to the print.
- The pants are made of a super light in weight stretch fabric that lets the pants hug the body like a second skin.
- There is a small band at the waist that is meant to flip inwards and then nothing else to break the eye as they fall in a fairly straight boot cut to the floor.
- From about the knee down the floral print is covered in matching coloured beads and sequins. These catch the light terrifically as you move.
- It is fabulous and a great little piece of fashion history.
- The jacket is lined in an ivory Versace logo embossed fabric and hooks to close at the front. The pants are unlined and close with a back zipper. Padding in each shoulder of the jacket. Both pieces appear to have been worn very little if at all. The hips of the pants have some stretch and the comfortable range is given in the measurements below.
- The pants are tagged a 42 and the jacket has no size tag present.
